Queen of Hearts
Would it be so unfair
So unjust
To ask you to stay frozen
In your own fiery lust?
To stay suspended
To stay staring
To hang yourself on a broken hope
Without me caring
To be my novelty
My fleeting joy
To be nothing more than a past laugh
To expect nothing more than an abandoned toy
A still frame
I can look back on with a smile faint
But turn the page with fingers numb
And think of your affections as nothing more than quaint
I'll lay my cards on the table
And play all of the hearts
Trading a king for a joker
-A joker for a fresh start
I want you to drown in your expectations
To disappoint you with my shoulder turned
To tease you with a stray glance
And to watch in reverie as you crash and burn
To drape myself over your coffin
As they lower you into the gaping ground
To run my shoe over the edge
To scream so I can remember the sound
Until the lights go off
These musings must be my water and bread
If i slip i will remember
The bitter meal i was fed
That burns inside of me
And makes me want to hate your name
Yet i can't let go of the idea of you
And what i can never reclaim
To kiss the idea of love
To dream of a better circumstance
To imagine us under a black sky
To wonder why I never had my chance
