I Like You
I like you.
I like you a lot,
she said.
But when you’re with me
I see you thinking of
her.
You told me
from the start.
I know.
Honesty & Truth.
I know.
I won’t compete with ghosts
or pictures
on your wall,
she said.
I won’t.
I can’t.
Now you know.
I looked at her.
She looked just like I felt.
I tried to smile.
She tried too.
I tried to explain.
She tried to understand.
I like you too,
I like you a lot,
I said.
But not like that.
She rose and left,
Leaving me alone
with my thoughts
…and the bill.
