This Life
I have sworn that I shall try to keep
all the things that don’t make me weep
foremost in my daily excursions
and in the folly of my diversions.
For to weep at all of misfortunes and woes
is to spend my life in doubt,
never to fully enjoy life’s gifts
and find myself without
all the things I came here for,
granted by my birth.
the bounteous gifts that I do own
and all that they are worth.
I have sworn to take in stride
whom I’ve become and shun all pride.
As I walk each step in front of me
I will do my best in repartee.
For to stay silent and keep within
is to always lose and never win
I’d succumb to loneliness and sorrow
and sit and wait for an endless tomorrow.
And those tomorrows may never appear.
I may only have today.
So all I have sworn is what I will do,
no matter come what may.
