Elayne danced

Elayne danced holding a long rope,
in an iniquity of dampish air spread,
rain poured on a dark, circus dead,
and my mind's choice empty scope.

In air danced, eye glanced, enfolded,
on acrobatic spiel heavenly perfect,
fans applauds paradiddled to direct,
a circus rein-perfect act accorded.

Years after no one tended to care;
the wind drummed ropes on a mast,
it passed amidst rags, cold and fast,
an odd intention, just to lift my stare;

There she posed; my friend Elayne
danced; ropes thrummed the mast,
hanging in void, in unworldly trust;
my soul cared for her wraith in strain.

'Address me doleful with eyes' tears;
care for me to applaud once forever;
and I 'll smile for this handle of never,
in odd worlds with dreams and fears.'

'Today you 'll be my gallant groom;
when you see a ribbon to wind in air,
it will be a herald of my love and care,
as our life weaves on acrobatic loom.'

She smiled once, to expend in space,
my friend Elayne in deadened glory,
I reform this circus and her sad story,
when vanished in air without a trace.
