Because You Are A Wandering Light
Because you are a wandering light
I love you that much more in darkness.
In the dark, golden bands of cestus
cast illuminate rings that encircle your bodice.
Nocturnal flower, Celestial centerpiece,
under the full moon your navel blooms,
body opening like soft starry trillium,
shadows flee from your hair
like the fluttering eyes of Aphrodite.
Because you are pure gold your beauty knows
the farthest depths of the earth.
Subterranean Vault, stored in you are the
submerged secrets of the river bed,
the sunken treasures of the cove.
Guiding pillar, Revolving tower,
let me lend my eyes to your light,
so together we may once again
see the entirety of life's great ocean.
Sustaining mineral, Shining ore,
Place just a small portion, a single coin,
of your inherited fortune in my palm,
So this poor poet can purchase the world for you.
