The Surgeon (Life Poem)
I dreamed I met a butcher, she was slaughtering a lamb,
The kindness there, the act of faith, a truth for all to see,
In my dream I was that lamb, the pain as plain could be,
The sacrifice for life, for love, the pleasure in that pain,
I woke with a church of nurses ministering my needs.
A smile, a laugh, her inner strength and total focus,
Maybe this is just a job, but I think the mask could slip,
With always giving, from dead and living, these gifts of life,
To now undying, a new start that seems so normal now,
Someone very special has crossed my path today.
