Age To Page

'Tis awhile since I last sat and looked at
our generation
My generation
Wouldn't spend a second thinking of the
nation
For 'tis our individual acts that sum up
the whole
Looking now, I seem to find a hole
A poke by a pole
Or perhaps something stronger
May suffice to make us better
And through this piece, I pray God
wiser...Here and there, I incline my ears
to listen to the voice of my brethren
Then and only then
Do my eyes see a problem
There seems to be a paradigm shift
Then I put my pen to paper to give my
generation a lift
A world hugely influenced by movies,
music and more
Everyone asks for more
Gone are the days of moonlight folklore
Or candle-lit family dinners
The world's been stolen by a bandit of
hustlers
Everyone's on the move, chasing papers
The earth ponders on the shallowness of
its newest visitors
No one's real anymore, just impostors
Being who others want them to be just
to fit in
In the process losing the soul within
Everybody sells their soul I know
But the exchange value should show
Brains have gone on an infinite
sabbatical
Since google went global
Hearts lost their beats as hugs became
'smileys'
Wiser still the animals?
A fast track, a fast train, my bad, fast
cars, where are we headed?
Reading of books has hitched a free ride
to extinction
Oh, the emptiness of a busy life
Oh, the strength of strife
Push down, pull down, walk over, to
thrive
Our minds have deleted the words:
loyalty, truth, honour and fidelity from
its hard drive
Each man thinks of one person and one
person only ~ Himself
Narcissism has given love a funeral
We are all so ethereal
Love for god, love for country, love for
mankind slid backwards to a place I
hope to reach
Hurt's so predominant, it's hard to
bleach
No one practices what they preach
We are drying up like rain and sand
Time's left to float away without our
imprint on time's sand
Identities are lost as we move in bands
Hardly ever reaching the depths of our
beings and digging out the gold within
Alive we are, but not living
In the stillness and quietness of our
minds, ideas stream
But there's never time to even dream
Our golds beautify the earth...but where
are they? A spade's never just a spade,
something's got to make it fade
Black's not black, nor white, white, its
always tinted with a shade of gray
Oh, all's tainted
Abused children, depressed mothers,
drunk fathers
Stoned sons, nude daughters
Numb hearts, cheating lovers
Plugged ears, shaded eyes
Twisted minds, jaded hearts
One in a million choose to be weird
Different is weird
On matters of style, we flow with the
currents
On matters of principle, we still flow with
the currents
As my ink wets each line, page by page
I think of worn-out phrases and a blank
page
Its not too late to make wrong right
Not too late for darkness to be fed by
light
Life's unfair and over so soon, we say
Someday we'd learn to love each as
equals, I pray
To pick each other up as we fall on life's
freeway
To give a smile away and share a hug a
day
To learn moderation and contentment in
our quest
And finally, to reach within and unleash
our best
So that one day when the earth
welcomes new visitors and we lay to rest
We'd have made the world a far better
place than we met...
