Beautiful Tears
Meeting you in some foreign place
With the wind on your arms
And the sun in your face,
I marvelled at your girlish beauty
And your subtle Delphic grace.
Imagine my surprise
At seeing you here in another guise,
An urchin in the street
On a cold, November day with the rain in your eyes.
Love is a stranger now
And sings me no more lullabies
In the old house by the sea.
I sit here lonely and helpless, bewitched by your beautiful tears,
The cradle rocks and the baby cries.
You said you would love me forever,
Why do you tell such terrible lies?
