Familiar Strangers (to the Bowie Girl)
You think that we are friends
But is it really true?
It's a mutual misunderstanding
That's joining us like glue!
Perhaps we're both just lonely
And need someone to care -
We love each other, but only
To cancel our despair!
I know that once I fancied you
And sent you a red, red rose,
But now I feel indifferent -
That's just the way it goes!
Well, come on, make the most of it
And blow upon the coals,
It'll make the fire burn brighter
And warm our chilly souls!
I thought of you as the 'Bowie Girl'
With all that Bowie hype:
I know you are quite beautiful,
It's just you're not 'my type'.
Our lifelines have got tangled,
Surely the work of Fate,
Let's hope we find the reason
Before it gets too late!
Perhaps we will discover
Something we never knew,
I may not be your lover
But my friendship will be true!
