The waters of Life

I go down to where the boats at bay
Shove off and just drift away

Overhead comes out a star
A planet I wondered Venus or Mars

I lay down upon wooden planks
It had that musty scent that smells so dank

One by millions the stars came out
I reach up but they were too far about

Surely I could find just one of my own
Before my body just turned to bone

Floating around in rippling by dark
I wondered about just how stark

The space between emptiness and spark
The distance between each distant mark

A shooting star crossed from west to east
Burning out, snuffed out without relief

Then an owl flew by on silent wings
Across the waters I could hear the crickets sing

I sat up and listened to a lapping sound
The waters of life all around
