Bridges (For Charlie)

I stood like a searing sun
With jaws clenched
Fighting the trepidation
As I watch you loom
On the other end
Of a bridge
Bleared behind the mist
But it's now all
A tacit memory
In the bloom.

For now, we
Let ourselves be cradled
By the svelte arms
Of the bridge we built
Making the smog
From our cigs
And the dense blur
Of the abject slurs
Which was pristine
In my own context

We are the reflection
Behind the blur
Only you are more
Perceived and understood
With your opalescent skin
And smoldering fire
But please
Do not depart
This bridge
For it will quake
Out of keel

The pavement bellows
My name,
And my cranium shrills
To be detonated
The heart could not help
For it had gone
Without a memo.

Charlie, when the vying
Is over and done
The smokescreen
Will digress and reveal
Either a recuperated soul
With more tragedies
To be resuscitated
In a squirming bridge,
Or a lambasted
Dead body
With or without
An inclement soul,
Cliff hanging
On a bridge
Hoping, inexorably,
To be saved.

How?
I do not know,
Charlie, I do not know.
