Does The Bird Know-or Care?

I watch a bird fly by my window.
Does she know she is forty stories high?
Or does she just enjoy the sky?

For me this height is solidly earthbound.
Seated on windowed rock at balcony’s ledge.
I hear near never seen neighbor’s
cat a plaintive pleading cry.
Also earthbound gravity tamed
still caged in spacious family box.

I watch a bird fly by my window.
Does she know she is forty stories high?
Or does she just enjoy sweet scented summer sky?

Free from chess cross
checkered pavements
pounding confining cunning ways.
Rising up rushed resentful rhythm
homeless humanities
solitary trapped plaintive cry.

Cool air flows past her fleet flying form
upon chosen air currents is she freely borne.
Her sleek plumage is not old not worn
nor her young spirit pierced broken torn.
