Festival of Diana
The exquisite evening
Draped in moonlight
Was perfect
For the festival of Diana.
She brought me wine
As the revelers sang
By the ecstatically laughing riverside.
On balconies,
Barely-clad girls
Danced to flicking candlelight
In bold aesthetic innocence.
There were offerings of sweet fruit
And fragrant flowers,
The girl I loved the most,
Her lips were tender
And her hair was wet
Caressing her shoulders
And inviting kisses.
I was in the hunt,
My prey, a woman’s eyes,
Mystical and alluring,
I was following them
Like an astrologer follows
Auspicious stars
Down along the seductive beach.
By the bon fire,
She asked me,
What was I staring at?
What was it I wanted?
What was it I needed?
I swam in those eyes
And smiled in her magical presence,
But this wasn’t the night to claim a goddess,
But I placed an amulet in her hand
And told her one day
I would have an answer for every question.
