Underage Girl

She disappears into the foreboding night
While her mother is sleeping in the bedroom next to hers,
She’s underage but escapes
To the Atlantis Lounge
Where the girls dance full-body birthday nude
To earn cash for a beautiful prom dress,
A prom that will never come.

When girls are completely nude,
Supposedly they ban the booze,
But the underage girl
And her blonde twenty-two year old friend,
Toss back shots of rum
In an effort to numb their souls
When it’s time to disrobe
For the defeated old men, the parasites
And the serial killers seeking entertainment.

When there is a lull in the evening
And the creeps tightly clutch their dollar bills
Like a wicked spider does her victim,
Then the girls make friends with pathetic losers
Who happen to have drug connections,
Some high school coaching assistant
In pursuit of a blowjob.

Down the road
In the criminal city,
They arrive at the Moonlight Motel,
Ecstasy and cocaine,
Sex for sale in room number nine,
The blushing neon signs
Witness the crimes
And the young girl’s demise.

The utterly wasted girls perform
For the cold, sober, calculating men;
The underage girl keeps returning
To the cocaine brick
In a terribly successful attempt
To forget who she is,
To forget where she’s been,
The scumbags bust their nuts and flee
Like hopped-up squirrels on methamphetamines.

Then the disaster is complete,
The underage girl, her heart just stops,
No longer able to bear
The heartbreaks of existence.
The blonde girl screams
And runs topless down the street
Looking for assistance
Until the cops and ambulances arrive
In the dark and dismal Detroit night.

When youth is saturated with sadness
Like a dew-covered leaf,
Then children try drugs and sex and booze
For any type of relief,
But I wish the underage girl
Could walk out in the sunlight tomorrow
And forgive herself for everything she’s done
And sing high school prom songs
While her mother waters smiling spring flowers.
