In fond remembrance of my father

South Africa, Serbia
Argentina, America
Germany, Uruguay
Brazil, Paraguay,
A host of countries,
A medley of jerseys
My eyes get glued to the TV
Come! Come! Welcome!
WCS (World Cup Soccer) -2010
Has undertaken journey.

Defeating my every mirth
Your face looms large
I tread my steps
Down the memory lane
And WCS-2006 peeps into reminiscence

Dampening your entire spirit
To witness the matches
Keeping yourself awake,
I had cautioned, “ Baba (Father) ,
Don’t be late to bed
It’ll spoil your health.”

But my advice fell flat
You sat erect
As your younger daughter
Viewed different.

Her valuable words were
“ This event repeats
Once in four years
Don’t dissuade father
To watch matches of soccer.”

Never realized
Her vision
Had surpassed mine.

Your last day in the hospital
Was 13th June,2007.
Since childhood
Even my trivials
Used to conquer your approval.
Your faint smile on the parting day too
Bore testimony of your endorsement
On my lean achievement.

Who knew in hours
I would be performing your funeral
Bereft of my last blood
With constricted outlet of emotion?

Today when June mingled with soccer
Occupy my entire being,
In silent tears
I murmur
“ Father, I wish
You were ever living”.
