The will to chase airplanes
Every day the little boy
With the golden sprint in
His dust covered feet chases
The silhouette of the same airplane
With great messianic zeal that it hurts
And his hands are flying as if he is
The seasoned and proud pilot himself
Don't worry little one
You see today your mother
Cries with the shame of watching
You resorting to the half bricks
That you improvise into toy airplanes
First you must learn the hard
Lessons of life in the raw
Before you graduate from the university
Of the heartlessness of chafing under
The ropes of adversity
You must earn your stripes from
Faculty of the hard knocks of suffering
And only then will you soar
With the eagle and touch the sky
And paint the clouds bright blue
And the ladies with the double
Barrel surnames will suddenly love
To learn to tilt to pronounce your
Clicks filled name properly
By then you will be wearing the shoes
With the gleaming diamonds in them
And your pride will be restored as
You climb into the cockpit and you say
A little prayer for your mum
Who had to absorb the crunching
Blows of her terrible suffering as she
Made sacrifice after sacrifice to deny
Poverty the chance to bloat your way
To the lifestyle of comfort surrounded
By unheard of luxury and glamor
Who stayed with you in the years of
The mad chasing of the airplanes and you
Will smile conspiratorially to your soul
And you will cry softly away from the
Glare of the public as you savor
The miracle of the new you but
You will not forget
The hell of the troubles you had
To bob and weave your way through on your
It was never going to be easy way
To fame and fortune
