Sally Cant Dance

Sally dances on the floor
She says that she cant do it anymore
She walks down st. marks place
And eats natural food at my place
Now sally cant dance no more
She cant get off of the floor
Sally cant dance no more
They found her in the trunk of a ford
Ooohhh, she cant dance no more
Sally is loosing her face
She lives on st. marks place
In a rent-controlled apartment, eighty dollars a month
She has lots of fun, she has lots of fun, but
Sally cant dance no more, ooohhh
Sally cant dance no more
She took too much meth and cant get off the floor
Now sally, she cant dance no more
She was the first girl in the neighborhood
To wear tied-dyed pants, ah, like she should
She was the first girl that I ever seen
That had flowers painted on her jeans
She was the first girl in her neighborhood
Who got raped on tompkins square, real good
Now she wears a sword, like napoleon
And she kills the boys and acts like a son
Sally cant dance no more, ooohhh, now
Sally cant dance no more
She cant get herself off the floor, ah, huh
Sally, ooohhh, she cant dance no more
Watch this, now
Sally became a big model
She moved up to eighties and park
She had a studio apartment
And thats where she used to ball, folk singers
And thats where she used to ball, folk singers, but
Sally, she cant dance no more
Sally, she cant dance no more
Sally cant get herself off of the floor
Now, sally, she cant dance no more
(sally cant dance)
(sally cant dance)
She knew all the really right people
She went to le jardin
She danced with picassos illegitimate mistress
And wore kenneth lane jewels, really its trash, but
Sally cant dance no more, ooohhh
Sally cant dance no more
She cant get herself off of the floor
Now, sally, ooohhh, she cant dance no more, no more
Dance, no more cant ...

Darling Lorraine

Words & music by paul simon
The first time I saw her
I couldnt be sure
But the sin of impatience
Said, shes just what youre looking for
So I walked right up to her
And with the part or me that talks
I introduced myself as frank
From new york new york
Shes so hot
Shes so cool
Im not
Im just a fool in love with darling lorraine
All my life Ive been a wanderer
Not really, I mostly lived near my parents home
Anyway lorraine and I got married
And the usual marriage stuff
Then one day she says to me
From out of the blue
Frank, Ive had enough
Romance is a heartbreaker
Im not meant to be a homemaker
And Im tired of being darling lorraine
What - you dont love me anymore?
What - youre walking out the door?
What - you dont like the way I chew?
Hey let me tell you
Youre not the woman that I wed
You say youre depressed but youre not
You just like to stay in bed
I dont need you darling lorraine
Darling lorraine
Lorraine
I long for your love
Financially speaking
I guess Im a washout
Everybodys buy and sell
And sell and buy and
And thats what the whole things all about
If it had not been for lorraine
Id have left here long ago
I should have been a musician
I love the piano
Shes so light
Shes so free
Im tight, well, thats me
But I feel so good
With darling lorraine
On christmas morning frank awakes
To find lorraine has made a stack of pancakes

Oh little sally, you know I love you baby.
Sally, I said I love you baby.
Sally ... its alright, its alright.
Remember girl when we both was younger.
It was the days we had so much fun girl.
Rememberin all of our childhood days, yeah.
We had our fun in so many ways.
You know I would have loved you anyway.
It aint just something I just had to say.
Dont let them tell you that youre not my kind.
Sally, sally, sally tell them youre mine, mine, mine.
Sally ... yeah,
Oh little sally, I said I love you baby.

Sally G

Sowhere to the south of new york city
Lies the friendly state of tennessee,
Down in nashville toen I met a pretty
Who made a pretty big fool out of me.
And they call her sally,
Sally g, why dyou wanna do the things you do to me?
Youre my sally, sally g
Took the part that was the heart of me, sally g.
The night life took me down to printers alley,
Where sally sang a song behind a bar.
I ran my eyes across her as she sang a tangled mime,
I used to love to hear her sweet guitar.
And they call her sally,
Sally g, why dyou wanna do the things you do to me?
Youre my sally, sally g
Took the part that was the heart of me, sally g.
Me and sally took up,
Things began to look up,
Me and her were going strong.
Then she started lyin,
I could see our love was dyin.
I heard a voice say,
Move along, move along.
Well now. Im on my own again,
I wonder if she ever really understood.
I never thought to ask her what the letter g stood for,
But I know for sure it wasnt good.
And they call her sally,
Sally g, why dyou wanna do the things you do to me?
Youre my sally, sally g
Took the part that was the heart of me, sally g.

She picked up a book of her fathers life

And threw it on the fire!

She knew from the start

Deep down in her heart

That she and tommy were worlds apart,

Lorraine

"Are you ready for your steeplechase, Lorraine, Lorraine, Lorree?
Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Baree.
You’re booked to ride your capping race to-day at Coulterlee,
You’re booked to ride Vindictive, for all the world to see,
To keep him straight, and keep him first, and win the run for me."
Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Baree.

She clasp'd her newborn baby, poor Lorraine, Lorraine, Lorrèe,
Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Baree.
"I cannot ride Vindictive, as any man might see,
And I will not ride Vindictive, with this baby on my knee;
He 's kill'd a boy, he 's kill'd a man, and why must he kill me?"

"Unless you ride Vindictive, Lorraine, Lorraine, Lorree,
Unless you ride Vindictive to-day at Coulterlee,
And land him safe across the brook, and win the blank for me,
It 's you may keep your baby, for you 'll get no keep from me."

"That husbands could be cruel," said Lorraine, Lorraine, Lorrèe,
"That husbands could be cruel, I have known for seasons three;
But oh, to ride Vindictive while a baby cries for me,
And be kill'd across a fence at last for all the world to see!"

She master'd young Vindictive — O, the gallant lass was she!
And kept him straight and won the race as near as near could be;
But he kill'd her at the brook against a pollard willow tree;
Oh! he kill'd her at the brook, the brute, for all the world to see,
And no one but the baby cried for poor Lorraine, Lorree.

Ballad: Lorraine, Lorraine, Lorree

1

'Are you ready for your steeple-chase, Lorraine, Lorraine, Lorree?
Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Barum, Baree,
You're booked to ride your capping race to-day at Coulterlee,
You're booked to ride Vindictive, for all the world to see,
To keep him straight, to keep him first, and win the run for me.
Barum, Barum,' etc.

2

She clasped her new-born baby, poor Lorraine, Lorraine, Lorree,
'I cannot ride Vindictive, as any man might see,
And I will not ride Vindictive, with this baby on my knee;
He's killed a boy, he's killed a man, and why must he kill me?'

3

'Unless you ride Vindictive, Lorraine, Lorraine, Lorree,
Unless you ride Vindictive to-day at Coulterlee,
And land him safe across the brook, and win the blank for me,
It's you may keep your baby, for you'll get no keep from me.'

4

'That husbands could be cruel,' said Lorraine, Lorraine, Lorree,
'That husbands could be cruel, I have known for seasons three;
But oh! to ride Vindictive while a baby cries for me,
And be killed across a fence at last for all the world to see!'

5

She mastered young Vindictive-Oh! the gallant lass was she,
And kept him straight and won the race as near as near could be;

Sneakin Sally Through The Alley

(alan toussaint)
Sneakin sally through the alley
Sneakin sally through the alley
Sneakin sally through the alley
Trying to keep her out of sight
Sneakin sally through the alley
When up pops the wife
I said, ah I cant find nothing wrong with being friends cos sometimes
She lets me use the car
She said if you cant find nothing wrong with your mind
Youd better find something wrong with her, her
So I began to explain ah that it wasnt just ah what she thought
Id better find something to do with my time
The fact is Ive just been caught
Sneakin sally through the alley
Sneakin sally through the alley
Trying to get away clean
Sneakin sally through the alley
When up pops the queen
Trying to double talk, get myself in trouble talk, catching myself in lies
Catching myself in lies
Mama just looked at me as if I was, ah, crazy
And didnt even bat an eye
So I began to try to explain, ah that it just wasnt what she thought
Id better find something to do with my time
The fact is ah just been caught, just been caught,
Sneakin, sneakin, sneakin,
Trying to talk doubletalk, get myself in trouble talk
Catching myself in lies, catching myself in lies
Mama just looked at me as if I was crazy
She didnt even bat an eye
Sneakin sally through the alley with sally
Sneakin sally through the alley with sally
Sneakin sally through the alley
Sneakin sally through the alley

The Cenci : A Tragedy In Five Acts

DRAMATIS PERSONÆ

Count Francesco Cenci.
Giacomo, his Son.
Bernardo, his Son.
Cardinal Camillo.
Orsino, a Prelate.
Savella, the Pope's Legate.
Olimpio, Assassin.
Marzio, Assassin.
Andrea, Servant to Cenci.
Nobles, Judges, Guards, Servants.
Lucretia, Wife of Cenci, and Step-mother of his children.
Beatrice, his Daughter.

The Scene lies principally in Rome, but changes during the Fourth Act to Petrella, a castle among the Apulian Apennines.
Time. During the Pontificate of Clement VIII.

ACT I

Scene I.
-An Apartment in the Cenci Palace.
Enter Count Cenci, and Cardinal Camillo.

Camillo.
That matter of the murder is hushed up
If you consent to yield his Holiness
Your fief that lies beyond the Pincian gate.-
It needed all my interest in the conclave
To bend him to this point: he said that you
Bought perilous impunity with your gold;
That crimes like yours if once or twice compounded
Enriched the Church, and respited from hell
An erring soul which might repent and live:-
But that the glory and the interest
Of the high throne he fills, little consist
With making it a daily mart of guilt
As manifold and hideous as the deeds
Which you scarce hide from men's revolted eyes.

Cenci.
The third of my possessions-let it go!
Ay, I once heard the nephew of the Pope
Had sent his architect to view the ground,
Meaning to build a villa on my vines
The next time I compounded with his uncle:
I little thought he should outwit me so!

Ride Sally Ride

Sit yourself down
Bang out a tune on that grand piano
Sit yourself down
Lay languidly down upon that sofa
Ooohhh, isnt it nice
When your heart is made out of ice
Ride, sally, ride
Its not your time or way of confusion
Ride, sally, ride
cause if you dont, youll get a contusion
Ooohhh, isnt it nice
When your heart is made out of ice
Sit yourself down
Take of your pants, dont you know this is a party
Sit yourself down
Why do you think we brought all these people, miss brandy
Ooohhh, isnt it nice
When you find your hearts made out of ice
Ride, sally, ride
Its not your time, its just your confusion
Ride, sally, ride
Its not your time, youll get a contusion
Ooohhh, isnt it nice
When you find your heart is made out of ice
(ride, sally ride)
(ride, ride, ride, ride, sally ride) ride, sally, ride
(ride, ride, ride, ride, sally ride) hey, ride, sally, ride
(ride, ride, ride, ride, sally ride) ride, sally, ride
(ride, ride, ride, ride, sally ride, oh-oh-oh, oh)
(ride, ride, ride, ride, sally ride, hey-hey-hey, hey-hey)

Wild Child

I was talkin to chuck in his genghis khan suit
And his wizards hat
He spoke of his movie and how he was makin
A new sound track
And then we spoke of kids on the coast
And different types of organic soap
And the way suicides dont leave notes
Then we spoke of lorraine
Always back to lorraine
I was speakin to phil who was given to pills
And small racing cars
He had given them up since his last crack-up
Had carried him too far
Then we spoke of the movies and verse
And the way an actress held her purse
And the way life at times can get worse
Then we spoke of lorraine
Always back to lorraine
Ah, shes a wild child
And nobody can get at her
Shes a wild child
Oh, and nobody can get to her
Sleepin out on the street
Oh, livin all alone
Without a house or a home
And then she asked you, please
Hey, baby, can I have some spare change
Oh, can I break your heart?
Shes a wild child, shes a wild child
I was talkin to betty about her auditions
How they made her ill
But life is the theater, is certainly fraught
With many spills and chills
But shed come down after some wine
Which is what happens most of the time
Then we sat and both spoke in rhymes
Till we spoke of lorraine
Ah, always back to lorraine
I was talking to ed whod been reported dead
By mutual friends
He thought it was funny that I had no money
To spend on him
So we both shared a piece of sweet cheese
And sang of our lives and our dreams
And how things can come apart at the seams
And we talk of lorraine
Always back to lorraine
Shes a wild child
Oh, and nobody can get at her
Shes a wild child

Vae Victis parody Gilles Menage Thomas Hood Faithless Nellie Gray

Vae Victis

Good people all, with one accord
lament for David Wren,
who never wanted a good word –
from those his praise did pen.

He strove all of this House to please
with manners wondrous winning;
and never followed wicked ways –
except when he was sinning.

At meals, in slacks and jackets neat,
with smile of monstrous size;
he sat up straight upon his seat –
for ladies, though, he’d rise.

His love was sought, the little wren,
by twenty birds and more;
where e’er he went they followed him
to Annesley’s shady shore.

So let us sigh, in sorrow sore,
for South House well may say;
had he but slaved in school some more,
he had not sobbed today.

Sally's Goodbye

Sally got up early to find what she could wear,
Then brushed her teeth and combed her hair.
She wasn’t going outside to play,
For today was a very special day.

Sally put on her favourite dress and matching headband,
In her favourite colour she looked so beautiful, just as planned.
‘Are you ready? ’ her daddy said
‘Yes Daddy I am, I’m just making my bed.’

She held her Daddy’s hand as they walked to the car
For she knew someone was watching from afar
They got in the car and drove away
Looking at the white clouds, with a touch of grey.

Everyone was there to give her a hug and kiss
She knew it was a day that no one would miss
In her matching headband and blue dress
As she walked through the doors she said god bless.

The place was decorated just like she thought
There was just enough room for the flowers she brought
Sally went up to the front of the room
And she knew that she would see her Mummy soon.

‘Here you are Mummy, I got these for you’
She was wearing her favourite colour, which was blue.
Sally placed the flowers she carried in her basket
With all the others right on top of her Mum’s casket.

Sally was 7 years old and didn’t understand
That her mummy couldn’t see her pretty blue headband
Daddy came up and placed on some flowers
He smiled, looking at Sally, ‘she’ll know they’re ours’.

They took their seat and began to wait
Most guests were seated, some were late.
The minister talked of a woman so beautiful
A wife, a mother and all things wonderful.

Sally asked Daddy if she could say a word
It was the sweetest thing her Daddy had heard.
‘Of course you can, Mummy would be proud,
Just go up there and remember to speak loud.

Sally walked up the front and stood at the pew
She knew everyone could see her in her dress of blue.
With memories in her head and love in her heart
She cleared her throat and began to start.

Sweet Lorraine

(mitchell parish, cliff burwell)
Just found joy
I'm as happy as a baby boy, baby boy
With another brand new choo-choo choy
When i met my sweet lorraine, lorraine, lorraine.
A pair of eyes
That are brighter tham the summer sky
When you see them, you'll realize
Why i love my sweet lorraine.
Now when it's rainin',
I don't miss the sun
Because it's in my baby's smile, whoa ho
And to think that i'm the lucky one
That will lead her down the aisle, whoa ho ho
Each night i pray
That no one will steal her heart away
I can't wait until that lucky day
When i marry sweet lorraine.
~interlude~
Now when it's rainin'
I don't miss the sun
Because it's in my baby's smile, whoa ho
And to think that i'm the lucky one
That will lead her down the aisle, whoa ho ho
Each night i pray
That no one will steal her heart away
I can't wait until that lucky day
When i marry sweet lorraine.

Back Alley Sally

Back Alley Sally,
When you gonna come my way?
It's over here, bouncin' baby,
I been waitin' for you night and day
You got a crew all shook up,
How long's it gonna take for you to give it up?
Back Alley Sally, I can play your game
Back Alley Sally, I know I'm just a crazy fool
I have never never met a woman
Awoman quite like you
You got, I swear you got those crazy eyes,
Kind-a like to take a man by surprise
Back Alley Sally, I love to watch you move
Well I know you like to tease and show your stuff
Oo, baby, I'm callin' your bluff
Come a little closer, let's get on down
We'll drink my whiskey, tear up the town
Back Alley Sally, tell me what you want to do
I got to be back up
I got to leave here soon
You got, I swear you got those crazy eyes,
Kind-a like to take a man by surprise
Back Alley Sally, I love to watch you move
Well I know you like to tease and show your stuff
Oo, baby, I'm callin' your bluff
Now don't think I'm just messin' around,
You're the cream of the crop,
You're my kind of gal.
Back Alley Sally, is that the kind of game you play,
I got to pay your price if I want you to stay.
Back Alley Sally,
I got to pay your price if I want you to stay.

Sally

Sally cammina per la strada senza nemmeno
guardare per terra
Sally una donna che non ha pi voglia
di fare la guerra
Sally ha patito troppo
Sally ha gi visto che cosa
ti pu crollare addosso
Sally gi stata punita
per ogni sua distrazione, debolezza
per ogni candida carezza
tanto per non sentire l'amarezza
senti che fuori piove
senti che bel rumore
Sally cammina per la strada sicura
senza pensare a niente
ormai e sera
si accendono le luci dei lampioni
tutta la gente corre a casa davanti alle televisioni
ed un pensiero le passa per la testa
forse la vita non stata tutta persa
forse qualcosa s' salvato
forse davvero non stato poi tutto sbagliato
forse era giusto cos
forse ma forse ma s
cosa vuoi che ti dica io?
senti che bel rumore

I got my calomine lotion baby, do it again

Sally of the Valley

In the valley their lived sally,
She owned a dog named fog,
She found fog in the pound,
Fog loved frogs.

In the valley their lived sally,
With her dog named fog,
By the pond she found frond the cat,
Frond loved the pond.

In the valley their lived Sally,
With her dog named fog,
And frond of the pond
She found a bird and named him word.

In the valley their lived sally,
Word was a small bird,
He loved to fly high in the sky,
Frond was fond of him.

In the valley their lived sally,
With her dog named fog,
Frond a cat from the pond,
And her bird named word.

In the valley their lived sally,
Sally died in the valley,
They were all down in the pound,
I miss sally of the valley.

Rose Lorraine

Sweet water-moons, blown into lights
Of flying gold on pool and creek,
And many sounds and many sights
Of younger days are back this week.
I cannot say I sought to face
Or greatly cared to cross again
The subtle spirit of the place
Whose life is mixed with Rose Lorraine.

What though her voice rings clearly through
A nightly dream I gladly keep,
No wish have I to start anew
Heart fountains that have ceased to leap.
Here, face to face with different days,
And later things that plead for love,
It would be worse than wrong to raise
A phantom far too vain to move.

But, Rose Lorraine -- ah! Rose Lorraine,
I'll whisper now, where no one hears --
If you should chance to meet again
The man you kissed in soft, dead years,
Just say for once "He suffered much,"
And add to this "His fate was worst
Because of me, my voice, my touch" --
There is no passion like the first!

If I that breathe your slow sweet name,
As one breathes low notes on a flute,
Have vext your peace with word of blame,
The phrase is dead -- the lips are mute.
Yet when I turn towards the wall,
In stormy nights, in times of rain,
I often wish you could recall
   Your tender speeches, Rose Lorraine.

Because, you see, I thought them true,
And did not count you self-deceived,
And gave myself in all to you,
And looked on Love as Life achieved.
Then came the bitter, sudden change,
The fastened lips, the dumb despair:
The first few weeks were very strange,
And long, and sad, and hard to bear.

No woman lives with power to burst
   My passion's bonds, and set me free;
For Rose is last where Rose was first,
And only Rose is fair to me.
The faintest memory of her face,

The Sadie Hawkins Dance
in my khaki pants

oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
it's always a surprise
There's nothin better
baby do you like my sweater?
Sittin in the back of my next class nappin
gotta give a speech then bow to the clappin
Told a funny joke got the whole class laughin
think I got a tan from the light which I was baskin
The Sadie Hawkins Dance
in my khaki pants
There's nothin better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
it's always a surprise
There's nothin better
baby do you like my sweater?
Scan the cafeteria for some good seating
I found a good spot by the cheerleaders eating
The quarterback asked me if I'd like a beating
I said that's one thing I won't be needing
And since I'm rather smart and cunning
I took off down the next hall running
Only to get stopped by a girl so stunning
only to get stopped by a girl so stunning?
She said, "You're smooth, and good with talkin.
You go with me to the Sadie Hawkins"
The Sadie Hawkins Dance
in my khaki pants
There's nothin better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
it's always a surprise
There's nothin better
baby do you like my sweater?
The Sadie Hawkins Dance
in my khaki pants
There's nothin better
oh oh oh
The girls ask the guys
it's always a surprise
There's nothin better
baby do you like my sweater
