A Prayer in the Dark
In the dark midnight
When I'm lying in my bed alone,
When the rain lashes my window
And the wild winds moan,
I long for you to be with me,
I can't bear it on my own.
I listen to the folk next door
And hear the baby cry and the old man groan -
We're each of us in our private hell
And needing love, but who can tell
What the dawn will bring?
The birds will sing
Their morning chorus
And perhaps the sun will shine,
It all seems so irrelevant,
The world has got no meaning,
Unless you will be mine;
I'm just a blind man now,
A cripple who can hardly see,
Please break these chains of loneliness
And let your loving set me free! !
