Strut On
We humans think we're somethin' else
all sentient and supreme
Rising upward to the top
just like so much cream
We gaze down upon the jungle ape
with looks of pure disdain
They just can't be our relatives
with such an undeveloped brain
All other life is there to serve
or nuisances at best
Since we are God's high creation
we can disregard the rest
Our need for God is even waning
much like a fashion in decline
We are strong and self sufficient
As we proudly strut so fine
Just consider our achievements
that have made the world our own
We have learned to use resources
as our earth mastery has grown
Stewardship is out of date
and has all but run its course
The Earth is one big apple
that we can pick without remorse
What happens when we use it all
and leave remnants in a mess
We assume we'll build a better world
with our creativity and finesse
Not actors on a wider screen
with minor rolls to humbly play
We are the leads—the whole shebang
and we shall have the final say
So, let us strut with haughtiness
which is just what we do best
As we ignore the consequences
that put our actions to the test
Carry on my fellow humans
as we display our DNA
Thumbing noses at humility
while we walk the human way
