Crowded Circus

Holding his tough flat hand
And swinging our arms together
We were proceeding forward
Towards the place, I was very excited for

In front of us stood the place for me like heavens
“Hey! Look there
The world’s most beautiful words in red”
“That spoke in bold letters ‘CIRCUS’”

By now in 2nd standard
I was able to read the boards
As the crowd got nearer
The size of my brother’s hand was a great help for me

Nor a singly show went unseen
Neither a single stall went unattended
The elder one gave me gas balloons
Of every color present there

It was hard for my little hands
To hold all those strings
Suddenly the one, of my favorite color went up
Leaving my brother’s, I leaped to catch it
Somehow, I got hold of its long string

I wanted to handle it to my brother
I looked around and searched for him but he was not there
I could not find him
Everyone’s height was my double
Oh brother, my brother

It was evening
I sat near a tree, what else this little soul could do either
My tears flooded the muddy ground below
I tied the balloons to the tree

The sun was setting
The crowd gradually dispersing
I could see happy children
With their father and brother

Suddenly I heard a voice known to me
I thought he wanted the balloons
I turned. The sun was at his back
Therefore, I could not see him clearly
However, I can admit
That he called out my name ‘Munna’
