The Old Tune

THIRTY-SIXTH VARIATION

THIS shred of song you bid me bring
Is snatched from fancy's embers;
Ah, when the lips forget to sing,
The faithful heart remembers!

Too swift the wings of envious Time
To wait for dallying phrases,
Or woven strands of labored rhyme
To thread their cunning mazes.

A word, a sigh, and lo, how plain
Its magic breath discloses
Our life's long vista through a lane
Of threescore summers' roses!

One language years alone can teach
Its roots are young affections

Celebrate Everything You Know

Wind keeps blowing at my back
Forcing me the way back home
Every appearance I make is an attack
Each one cuts to the bone

A feeling runs through me every time
Every time I step into that place
I can’t seem to find the rhyme
To erase every trace

I’m standing in the doorway of darkness
Looking for a single shred of light
To Aleve this awkward stress
That has got me so tight

I’m going home
Home to those memories
Home to myself
Have a good a time

Thank You For waiting

As you read this you will smile,
As I sit here and wonder for a while,
Wondering why you want to be with me,
Wondering do I really make you happy?
But than you see me staring, smiling, stuttering, lost for words,
You smile back,
And my stomach fills with butterflies and birds.

Ill do anything to be with you,
Ill do anything to hold you every night for the rest of our lives,
Anything to make you happy,
Anything to make you giggle,
Anything to keep you as my love,
You're my angel, you're my dove.

I can tell you what you mean to me, and how special you are,
I can write my love for you in a poem,
I can stare into your sweet eyes and tell you that I won't ever let go,
But you got to feel it.

Show Tune #3

What a lovely matinee
intermission long enough
but it's snowing, now, the wind is blowing-
well, you get my drift,
Baby, can I give you a lift?

Your way and my way
go the same highway-
the cabbie knows a byway,
I don't, so do say, do say
Baby, I can give you a lift.

In the cab we'll gab
laugh and count the many ways
that life is like a Broadway play
you can bet I'll pay, I'm good for it,
Baby, can I give you a lift?

When you get home, bone-dry
you will invite me in

Highways Of The Mind!

When God made Man and Woman, too,
Freewill gave them their start,
But would they love God's point of view
Or from God's wisdom part?
We know they strayed and sin was born
The day they sinned inside,
Such that they left Him so forlorn,
Without one shred of pride...

But now in Christ, our hearts and minds
Are humbled by God's love
And healing Scriptures that each finds
Still prove God's grace enough...
Thus problems come and problems go
When faith directs our prayers,
For who is there more in the know
Than God who truly cares?

The highways of the mind await,
Constructed by the Lord,

You Know Not

Do you know what I pawned for
To tolerate and swallow these swords?
Do you know how many pieces
Sprawled bleeding on the floor?
Do you know how many places
I hid myself, my anguish and misery,
Only for you to find, pilfer and stain?
Do you know how lofty you are
And the shadows that you cast
That shred all the other lights?
Do you know the brambly lashes
That my soul reaps when
You assume and tell me
That I seem to be fine
And break a sardonic wry?
Because I know the verity
That it is you in that state
Of a myriad of reasons to be sate.
Do you know that despite this
I still wanted to keep you

The Power of Taste

It didn’t require great character at all
our refusal disagreement and resistance
we had a shred of necessary courage
but fundamentally it was a matter of taste
Yes taste
in which there are fibers of soul the cartilage of
conscience
Who knows if we had been better and more
attractively tempted
sent rose-skinned women thin as a wafer
or fantastic creatures from the paintings of
Hieronymus Bosch
but what kind of hell was there at this time
a wet pit the murderers’ alley the barrack
called a palace of justice
a home-brewed Mephisto in a Lenin jacket
sent Aurora’s grandchildren on into the field
boys with potato faces
very ugly girls with red hands
…………..

Careless or Greed

A Bird hath a nest left
yet afore, throw the hatchlings away
mice in a cage kept
suspicious how he made not a way

Doubtful how he not share and live to bear
Two roads to go yet pick the cruelty
Truth I spoke however he'd shown no care
Anticipated more nonetheless his greedy

Thoughts of mine don't know where going
Blood from nose just keep on flowing
Weary eyes just keep from weeping
Heart of mine, is it still pumping?

Numb his soul, his heart be stone?
Blind is he? or careless deaf?
Mute or invisibility do I own?
How come not sensed my over plead

Caught who Court Death

Without the blessing of the Gods
with Death you wed.
Yet suicide remains at odds
with those who fear to greet the sods,
who Heaven's gates slam on the dead.

The dead anticipated not,
wait, arms outspread.
Fell leaves their souls which, half-forgot,
skirl, skittles in windy melting pot.

Paradise keeps tabs on age.
Narcissus, dead,
must wait in turn Who turns the page.
No joys, except that in his rage
he'll [s]wallow, outrage his own cage.

If of his face he took much heed,
unless he fed
in fount of Youth, to drown, what need?

A New Year Thought

Brother, who on some near morrow
Makes a pledge conceived in sorrow
Makes a New Year resolution
Seeking plenary ablution.
Makes a vow to cease from sinning
With this New Year's beginning
Here's a thought to give you gladness,
Here's relief from old year sadness.

Brother, you and I are men.
We have sinned; and yet again
Shall we sin. An old year's dying
Still shall find us ever trying.
Yet here is a thought worth knowing,
While our wild oats we are sowing,
Sowing where we may not reap
Here's a thought to have and keep.

Why waste effort in our sinning,
For no goodlier grace we're winning?
