Quotes about upstate, page 2
My Friend Bill
Half Italian, half Irish for his last name is Maroney
Razel puppet said his name on stage rhymes with baloney.
Now he has my 2 books of “Sarah’s Special Birthday”
He thinks they are very colorful, with colors of May.
One book is hard cover the other book is soft,
He lets me borrow them when my own copy gets sold or lost.
Now, he was good friends with my dear friend Jimmy,
they would go to all the restaurants in the Lake Worth city.
Now Bill is his first name but his middle name is John,
he was a economics professor in Michigan.
His mother is a sweetheart and she is still alive,
she is in upstate New York and almost 95.
Bill hopes to get in shape, I think he can doesn’t eat past eight.
Bill always visited me on Comedy Night at the Rumshack,
He always thought I was funny and laughed and laughed.
Thanks Bill for supporting me as an performing artist and
visual artist too, hopefully that big original painting will sale
when my book sales go through the roof.

The Good Daughter
having made her way out of the nest
having made something of herself
she rubs elbows with some of the city's finest lawyers
balancing her own practice with a sad attempt at having a social life-
she calls home to her mother,
whom she visits every weekend upstate,
doing her grocery shopping &
doing whatever she can for her,
the whole while listening to a constant critique of
where she should be at the age that she is-
her mother insists that her daughter will not stay young forever,
saying she has no fashion sense,
always points out that she should try to go to the gym more often &
never ceasing to make time to moan about wishing that she had grandchildren,
asking why a woman who is as successful as her daughter
cannot find a man-
the daughter doesn't respond with anger & instead
stays up at night when mother has fallen asleep
working on cases &
watching her remaining youth drift away,

Chicago [1920's slang]
Left my dump, off to the [Gourmet Cafe]
Ankling it, no need for a hack
I'm a johnnie walker
Stopped a bit to jaw a little
With two wiseheads [Jess] and [Carrianne]
Before work
As we discuss how one of their coffee-and-donut doble
Keep klunking out on them
When I arrived
I poured me a cup of joe
Then took a powder
To find me an ameche
To arrange a get together for tonight
With my tight squeeze
I get back and drink the joe
Shortly afterwards I get jingle-brained
Then I threw a joe
I wake to find me in this heap
Someplace in a back of alley
And was being pulled out by three goons

Throw Back The Little Ones
Lost in the barrio I walk like an injun
So carlo wont suspect somethings wrong here
I dance in place
And paint my face
And act like I belong here
Chorus:
Throw back the little ones
And pan-fry the big ones
Use tact, poise and reason
And gently squeeze them
Hot licks and rhetoric
Dont count much for nothing
Be glad if you can use what you borrow
So I pawn my crown
For a ride uptown
And buy it back tomorrow
Chorus
Done like a matador I pray for the weekend
And hope the little girls still throw roses
Else Ill change my bait

Virgil
Virgil
Ive got a wife, four grown children
I cant afford their education
I been a prison guard for fourteen years
That aint exactly a vacation
Warden
Since hes been here hes followed every rule
Well I told you my position
The law says hes got the right to go to school,
We abide by the courts decision
Virgil
I got a winchester 243
I like that gun for deer
Upstate november when the air is free
Smells like hunting seasons here
Hes the one to keep your eyes on
Hes smart yeah and hes quiet
A troublemaker if I ever seen one
Next thing you know its attica
And we got a prison riot

Jeremy Engle
Jeremy Engle
Lives in a tangled
Rent controlled apartment
With his communist family
There are books all around them
The dining room table is lacquered
With news clippings
Yellowing badly
They argue at dinner
His brother's friends drop by
To throw a line in or two
About Tolstoy
They all play guitar
And they're all very far away
In their own minds
From the upper west side
Of manhattan
I never got past his
Googly eyes
That looked at me sadly

Do you mind if I tell the truth for a second ya'll

to wonder who calling so damn late
For you to say im trippin it's just a homie from upstate (said it's just a homie)
Dont he know it's 1:00 in the morning

Baby I deserve
for you to say he's coming into town ( he wants to see you)
and he's just wondering if you and him can hang out
I dont like it but I know I gotta trust you
It aint cool cause I know it's true
Maybe I deserve
for you to go out and find some other guy
Maybe I deserve
for you to stay out with him all night
Maybe I deserve

The Day John Kennedy Died
I dreamed I was the president of these united states
I dreamed I replaced ignorance, stupidity and hate
I dreamed the perfect union and a perfect law, undenied
And most of all I dreamed I forgot the day john kennedy died
I dreamed that I could do the job that others hadnt done
I dreamed that I was uncorrupt and fair to everyone
I dreamed I wasnt gross or base, a criminal on the take
And most of all I dreamed I forgot the day john kennedy died
Oh, the day john kennedy died
Oh, the day john kennedy died
I remember where I was that day, I was upstate in a bar
The team from the university was playing football on tv
Then the screen want dead and the announcer said,
Theres been a tragedy
Theres are unconfirmed reports the presidents been shot
And he may be dead or dying.
Talking stopped, someone shouted, what!?
I ran out to the street
People were gathered everywhere saying,
Did you hear what they said on tv
