Quotes about leaf, page 22
In Leaf Fall Learn
give leaf to leaven
busy hungry crawl caterpillar;
free to wander dawn
where it chance may
to spin silken
dream transition one glorious day;
to spin woven
dream seen inspiration as caterpillar
crawl in dust leaf learn
until time to metamorphosis turn;
dreams grounded stay
not earthbound stubborn
aspire to destiny blue cloud heaven
leap in faith learn to freedom fly;
patient be stretch birth beat wings dry
upon breath breeze sing embrace sky

The Old Men In The Leaf Smoke
The old men rake the yards for winter
Burning the autumn-fallen leaves.
They have no lives, the one or the other.
The leaves are dead, the old men live
Only a little, light as a leaf,
Left to themselves of all their loves:
Light in the head most often too.
Raking the leaves, raking the lives,
Raking life and leaf together,
The old men smell of burning leaves
But which is which they wonder &mdash whether
Anyone tells the leaves and loves &mdash
Anyone left, that is, who lives.

Insolvent for my friend Aldo
The silver leaves of aspen trees
which shimmer in the playful breeze.
Each separate leaf reflecting light
like newly minted coinage bright.
Quite soon will be a memory
as autumn winds strip every tree
until no single leaf is left
Their branches naked and bereft.
Though they still shiver in the breeze.
The naked branches do not please
the eye the way they used to do.
I long again to see the view
of silver laden aspen trees.
which dip and curtsy in the breeze..

Tz'u No. 16 (Bajiao)
Who planted the Bajiao tree under my windows?
Its shade fills the courtyard;
Its shade fills the courtyard...
Leaf to leaf, heart to heart,
folding and unfolding,
It expresses boundless affection.
Sad and broken-hearted, lying awake on my pillow,
Late into the night
I hear the sound of rain.
It drips and splashes, cool and melancholy;
It drips and splashes, cool and melancholy....
Lonely for my beloved, grief-stricken,
I cannot endure the mournful sound
of rain.

Take Salt Season New Meals
leaf meals taste spicy
bless mind to empty belly
spirit how leaf full briefly
transforms gift food energy
prepares meals for all souls
alone lost who homeless roam
life goes on be glad bridges
burning are not your home
take salt season new meals
for each lonely hurt traveller
pain commercial transitions
breaks breeds dream weaver
life purpose may begin in
kindness helping homeless kitten
waste rambling ways bless in
restore love in hope heart written

The Last Petal
cautious take simple
arrogant, shifted
in the highway of change; leaving where
an open hand may not close,
to the heart of envied eyes, a callous of pride
beyond any pollen petals of decompose
scented candle hurriedly calls
the melted fog of genuine
leaf, looking where
the wind call and fall into the ground
of fertile soil; letting the moist perfume the
golden lullaby of your stay
forever smell the last leaf to float
and fly where
life goes in the journey of every last
sight...

Blue Butterfly
blue butterfly
so blue fluttering alone
hovering on my yellow green leaf
and stopping for a while
on my shiny, brown twig
tell me if i am smooth
just tell me if
if am good
then leave
blue butterfly
do not ask if my heart is real
do not ask if you can have it
i do not have a heart anymore
for you see i am just this
tree, this twig, this leaf
but blue butterfly
if ever i have a heart

Faith
Faith is in you whenever you look
At a dewdropp or a floating leaf
And know that they are because they have to be.
Even if you close your eyes and dream up things
The world will remain as it has always been
And the leaf will be carried by the waters of the river.
You have faith also when you hurt your foot
Against a sharp rock and you know
That rocks are there to hurt our feet.
See the long shadow that is cast by the tree?
We and trees throw shadows on the earth.
What has not shadow has no strength to live.

To An Unfortunate Woman, Whom The Author Had Known In The Days Of Her Innocence
Myrtle leaf, that ill besped
Pinest in the gladsome ray,
Soiled beneath the common tread
Far from thy protecting spray!
When the partridge o'er the sheaf
Whirred along the yellow vale,
Sad, I saw thee, heedless leaf!
Love the dalliance of the gale.
Lightly didst thou, foolish thing!
Heave and flutter to his sighs,
While the flatt'rer on his wing
Wooed and whispered thee to rise.
Gayly from thy mother stalk
Wert thou danced and wafted high;
Soon on this unsheltered walk
Flung to fade, to rot, and die!

Like A Leaf
i will pass this world
like a blown leaf
to the north by the south winds
there will be abrupt changes
just the ripening of the life
of a leaf
from green to yellow
to orange and then to gray
to dryness crumpling
into dust
who will not be dust?
we all are
but all of you are leaving traces
like a footstep
a child a parcel of land
a will
how can i make some traces
on the path of the
