Quotes about tether, page 3

Ambrose Bierce

Metempsychosis [Once with Christ he entered Salem]

Once with Christ he entered Salem,
Once in Moab bullied Balaam,
Once by Apuleius staged
He the pious much enraged.
And, again, his head, as beaver,
Topped the neck of Nick the Weaver.
Omar saw him (minus tether
Free and wanton as the weather:
Knowing naught of bit or spur)
Stamping over Bahram-Gur.
Now, as Altgeld, see him joy
As Governor of Illinois!

Jumping Rope

We are jumping rope together
we are jumping rope together
unwinding naughty knots of tether
we are jumping rope together

We are jumping rope together
we are skipping beats together
pouting panting chasing chants
unraveling rigid wraps to sever

We are jumping rope together
we are jumping rope together
jointly jogging jagged breath
suddenly we
sneeze!

Little Band Of Gold

With this little band of gold,
I slip on your finger.
I promise to love and cherish
you forever and ever,
under the eyes of God.
We are now bound together,
forever to be husband and wife.
No temptation will tear us apart,
nor cut the ties that bind us
to share our lives forever.
Even though death may separate us,
it will never cut the tether,
which will always hold our love.

Anti-Psychiatry

I wish my psychiatrist would have a breakdown
So I could give him ECT
And lots of useless medication
And boring Occupational Therapy!

Then when he was at the end of his tether
I'd tell him to PULL HIMSELF TOGETHER!

I'd love to have the opportunity
To make him suffer as much as me!

Then when he was feeling grotty
And felt like suicide,
He'd realise being 'potty'
Isn't quite such an easy ride!

Weather

Can you hear
The smile of love.
When you are apart
The aching of your heart
Is
Much greater than being together.
But it's taken for granted
Like the weather.

Can you hear
The ultimate beauty of love.
Feelings take a lifetime to accrue.
Yet me and you
Were counted out
In seconds.
Like a boxer
By an unexpected blow.
You were my kitten.
I was your beau.

Crocheted

With only the dramatic art of Lease Agreements
to tether my mind, my thoughts flew away to the
mathematics of crafts – coral reefs are crocheted,
the atmosphere is knit and some even fold a stop
sign into a pair of pants - at the intersection of
math and handicraft

Confirming my suspicion that the fine art of knitting
cables in multicoloured, many-layered wool - can be
used to represent Many Worlds Theory!

Chanson Un Peu Naïve

What body can be ploughed,
Sown, and broken yearly?
But she would not die, she vowed,
But she has, nearly.
Sing, heart sing;
Call and carol clearly.

And, since she could not die,
Care would be a feather,
A film over the eye
Of two that lie together.
Fly, song, fly,
Break your little tether.

So from strength concealed
She makes her pretty boast:
Plain is a furrow healed
And she may love you most.
Cry, song, cry,
And hear your crying lost.

Sorrow’s insomnia

In her parting, my sorrow never sleeps
Though in others’ eyes she is none to me.
At tether end, new episode is beyond hope.
Seeing her anew will never lull the sorrow.
Not by her parting was my sorrow up
But was by her exit from a vivid sojourn,
For one aborted is never resurrected.
With her parting, went my resurrected youth.

‘Every action has equal and opposite reaction’
the law says. Is it true in her part?

In Prison

Wearily, drearily,
Half the day long,
Flap the great banners
High over the stone;
Strangely and eerily
Sounds the wind's song,
Bending the banner-poles.

While, all alone,
Watching the loophole's spark,
Lie I, with life all dark,
Feet tether'd, hands fetter'd
Fast to the stone,
The grim walls, square-letter'd
With prison'd men's groan.

Still strain the banner-poles
Through the wind's song,
Westward the banner rolls
Over my wrong.

Death And Birth

Death and birth should dwell not near together:
Wealth keeps house not, even for shame, with dearth:
Fate doth ill to link in one brief tether
Death and birth.

Harsh the yoke that binds them, strange the girth
Seems that girds them each with each: yet whether
Death be best, who knows, or life on earth?

Ill the rose-red and the sable feather
Blend in one crown's plume, as grief with mirth:
Ill met still are warm and wintry weather,
Death and birth.
