What Is True Devotion?
What is true devotion?
He is a farmer-
His means may not be much;
Not highly literate
To know by heart
The hymns and compositions
Of great seers and sages
Or of religious poets
To roll out in animated devotion

We Are Nudes Of Reality!
We Are Nudes Of Reality!
[This poem is a monologue from one of the four toiling labourers of the statue of labour, the only wonderful piece of art on stone among the plenty of lifeless statues that dot the famous marina beach of chennai, on a hot day when i stood saluting these
three-quarter naked labourers giving there all to shift a huge rock]
********************
This is not the eyes' restful closure in sweet dreams-
But these are the tightly pressed eyelids
By the trampling of the hooves of reality
In their furious dance on our lives!
Dreams..?
How would they be..?
We-
The nudes of realities.!
Look...!
These sliding jewelleries of sweat
Are the salty juices wrung hard by realities!

Perumaal 25-30
25 Amid the surging ocean with sacred conch
Rescued Thee where Chandra from curse
Thence Thine crown where adorned the crescent
Where with Amrithavalli Thee favouring
To Thou abode that of ThalaichangaNaanmadhiyam(Thalaichangaadu)
That accolades Thou dazzling charisma Thirumangai
Hey Naanmadhiya Perumaal, vision, I surrender
26 Thee where granted Chandran his naming-wish
Thence Thou abode Indaloor after chandran known
Thirumangai where debated for Thou vision
ParimalaRanganayaki where with Thee gracing
To Thou abode that of ThiruIndaloor
That scents outspread with Thou fragrance
Hey ParimalaRanga, vision, I surrender

The Common Crow
The Common Crow, "Caw-Caw"—with its familiar sound
Is a harmless bird very adaptable on land
Almost all over the world it is invariably found
Except in South America, Antarctica and New Zealand.
It is of average size—in color—grey and black
And abounds, teems and thrives in many numbers
Where other birds' survival is considerably slack
As it is the most intelligent of its bird family members.
The Ravens, Magpies, Rooks, the Black-birds
And the Jays—all belong to the family of the crow
They are all hunting migratory birds
Who forage together like the crow.
It has shining black feathers, is clever and curious
It is omnivorous and the diet is very diverse
It eats grains, rodents, insects and is mischievous
And swoops down to grasp things from man's source.

Munnar-The scenic beauty
We headed to the heavenly Munnar—
Our son-in-law with a golden heart,
Took us too with his family, in a car,
Winding its way over the hilly part.
The driver at the steering wheel,
At his side, my son-in-law,
Daughter, hubby and self in the mid to deal,
The children three, at the back did draw.
The evening was cool and bright,
Munnar being 2000 metres above sea level;
The wind breezed past through our car right,
With a wonderful feeling—hearts did swell.!
The landscape set a magic spell rolling,
It was in the Idukki district of Kerala;
The plantations of tea were lush and sprawling,
The different shades of nature took us in awe!

Rats
As a toddler I grew up in my
Grandparents ancestral house
Large house with several rooms
Sloping red tiled roof
Semi dark, even during mid day
Located in the centre of vast estate
With reddish gravely soil
Horizontal terrain with several elevational layers
House encircled by tall trees of
Coconuts, Jackfruits, mangoes, bananas
Tamarind, papaya, pepper creepers
Such large house occupied by only
Four human beings
Myself, grandparents and a servant maid
House was infested with
Reptiles, lizards, small crawling snakes
Cockroaches, spiders, squirrels, frogs
Millipedes, centipedes, cats, kitten and rats
Black bats flying and clinging to ceiling, heads down
Best place for zoological research

Vanishing Sparrow
VANISHING SPARROW
Oh! Sparrow! Where have you gone?
Till yesterday you were here born,
I wonder, how you're from us torn,
Oh! Sparrow! W here have you gone?
Oh! Sparrow! I remember your chirpy call,
To children you were their first pal;
It was a real sight, so sweetly pleasant,
To behold you hopping around us, hesitant!
We were in enchantment of your beauty,
Nibbling at the scattered grains in bounty;
To your cool chirps, we were driven,
Our hearts, you did merrily enliven.
A cozy two-some you were ever,
Your flight was with your lover;
You eagerly took sand and water baths,
At it with glee filled our happy hearts.

Chile's Miracle
CHILE'S MIRACLE
Miners thirty three, descended the mine,
In the Chilean Atacama desert at San Jose,
To fetch copper and gold so fine,
And to the occasion they happily rose.
In the bowels of the earth 700 metres below,
Lo! They were pinned half a mile underground,
And a rock of 70000 tonne gave them a blow,
Crashing on their tunnel with a huge sound.
The tunnel bore the brunt and kept them alive,
They were utterly scared; it was humid and hot;
On one half a spoon of salmon they did survive,
In the dark, only their helmet lights were their lot.
Despair and anguish gripped the men to pine,
They were trapped in a dark dank space;

The Riddle of Cosmos
The Riddle of Cosmos
The singularity of the Universe—
the Bing Bang rang
ten thousand million years ago—
was the theory propounded—So
the scientists in unison sang.
They set themselves to find
the important property that did bind
all matter to confer its mass, size and shape.
The riddle of the cosmos to solve
the physicists did evolve
"The Standard Model" of Particle Physics.
Fundamental particles twelve
of this theory
and fundamental forces four
save gravity
govern the dynamics
of the Universe.

O ... The Girl With The ' Veenaı '!
O my darling!
Take in your hands this beautiful Veenai.
Upon the delicate strings of the divine Veenai
Ride soft your tender fingers!
O.. what a melodious strain it is!
My lids of themselves do slowly close..
My flesh and bones all slowly soften
In the divine waves your Veenai outspreads..
My mind in the sweet melody of music-
No, .no..in the cruel pain of that Supreme Joy-
Suffers much and wriggles like a snake..
Lo..! how short of words I am my feelings to express!
Alas! I know not of their kind too..
And your Veenai's voice chokes my heart...
My chest is full of pain..
My soul melts in music..
O my beloved!
What song do you play? .
Tell me dear..
To what tune have you set it?
