Quotes about alleys, page 5

Drifting

drift like a leaf
carried by the flow of the river

drift like a feather
riding on the current of the wind

drift like a vagabond
on the alleys of the foreign land

drift like boat
without its rudder and engine

drift like a space craft
deep into the black hole of this universe

there is this feeling
of letting go and saying yes and not wanting to know.

Moon Shadows

The lily white brillance
Of the silken full moon
Engages the shadows
In the alleys of hardened goons;

Stoic but fused with crimson infection
They-the guilty hands of crime
Are disfigured from the sinners stain
Their insolence breaks open their grime;

Lurking ever deviously...
In the first flush of night
The truth-it buzzes continuosly
Compliments of the moons lily white! ;

On A Birthday Cake For Dying Rabbits

Storm clouds laughing over bowling alleys where
No one spends any real time in-
And the jaundice east blowing out the sick
Candles on a birthday cake for
Dying rabbits:
And this is my toy sent spinning out onto
The concrete field,
Covered with so much graffiti, like tattoos
Around your neck,
And the airplanes coming across you
Carelessly every night, but never having the mind
To look down and see.

Sacred Common Things

i wake to the sound of weeping,
only to find it's me,
weeping for the world.
i wake to the feel of my hands,
reaching out for other hands...
only to find it's god,
both reaching and taking.
i wake to the smell of fear,
in skies ridden by gunfire,
in alleys reeking with despair,
in children that stink of hunger.
i wake to the taste of longing,
to love and be loved...
and arise once again,
to do sacred common things!

Questionable

Give me a home for sparrows.
An outcry was rising,
why do you go from aphids to moon.

Midnight and a howling.
I am scared of hungry wolves
roaming in alleys.

Two small mounds and a
split code. There was left nothing
in alphabetical order.

Dry aquarium. Why did the fish
leave for the veins of glass? Lights
were out in search of a dark corner.

The corpse was unbuttoned,
why do you wash your food before eating?

Sunnyside, Pretoria revisited (in answer to I.L. de Villiers)

On the street corners, in the dark back alleys
whores cackle,
some black women glance lusting at me,
poor children are watching me in hunger,
without pants form behind trellis fences,
deeply moved I notice here,
how my country is falling into disrepair,
doctor Mamba's advertisement is pressed into my hand.

[Reference: "Distrik ses herbesoek" (District six revisited) by I.L. de Villiers. Doctor Mamba refers here to a witchdoctor]

Poem - III

Through the dark aisles of the wood
Where the pine-needles deaden all sound
And the dove flutters in the black boughs

Through twilit vaults of the forest
Where fungus stifles the roots
And the squirrel escapes with a cone

Through the dim alleys of pine
Where the bent stick moves like a snake
And the badger sniffs at the moon

Through the green graveyard of leaves
Where the stoat rehearses his kill
And the white skull grins in the fern.

My Tongue Exerts

My tongue stays and growls
In circles of fire that are crowds;
Inside the argument, the increase of wealth
Welcomes us, if you stay and dive.

Richer speech welcomes us in ends,
Talents must diverge, to still be told.
Surely, the weakness of the tongue is huge
When we still greet you with it.

Let certain elements be absurd,
The true registry exerts a minister,
One son and one daughter is enough,
Let mighty alleys fasten the flight.

Bodhisattava

For the sake of lake, I climbed
on the weeping hills
to see the other side of moon.
The precipice of hunger weighs heavily
on shoulders.

Capricious time moves inwardly,
Strikes at the chest.
I set free the love-birds.

Conflict of trees tramples the grass
All summer the smell of dry winds
was scorching tear drops.
Every word was crying.

Dark in my city
I am wandering alone in alleys
of hostile homes.
The collective guilt of the flesh
blazes the mind.
