The Boomer's Lament (A Country Western Song)
By the order of the Marshall
We don't live here any more
Our stuff is on the lawn
and there's a padlock on our door.
Then, while I was distracted,
reading the decree
Thieves made off with my HDTV
I once worked as a loan officer
at Mega Billions bank
We made some bad decisions
as the staff and assets shrank.
I was escorted from my desk
the day I got the shank-
My Boss made bonus- he has
TARP to thank.
By the order of the Marshall
We don't live here any more
Our stuff is on the lawn

Kaddish for Uncle Bob
I was 2
and Uncle Bob came to visit California.
His fuzzy beard & crazy hair is what I remember.
A faded photograph, younger days.
We went to the beach and park.
He smiled a lot.
I was 3
and I wanted to listen to *Uncle Bob’s Tape*
I still have that tape.
It’s now on my iPod...
Bob's Blues Motel
I was 15 in the summer of '86.
Charles Lloyd was rolling heavy
Roland Kirk was blowing wild
Zulu had a picture of Rahsaan on the wall
Was that REALLY 3 axes?

Mr. Cameron
What if Mr. Cameron was made of Swiss cheese?
Cleaning up wouldn’t be much of an ease.
If he was, that wouldn’t be nice.
Our homeroom would be infested with mice.
This room would be home to a family of rats,
We might start chasing them with baseball bats.
His life would be simple,
His face without a dimple,
The dimple, replaced by a hole,
Austin would use it as a soccer Goal.
Mr. Cameron would be fired,
Yet also, he would be admired.
Admired, but only by mice,
Now isn’t that nice?
It would be weird to have a dairy product as a teacher,
What an unusual edible and healthy to eat creature.
Living in a zoo,
He’ll have nothing to do,
He’s a one of a kind edible pet,
So sell him on the internet,

Underage Girl
She disappears into the foreboding night
While her mother is sleeping in the bedroom next to hers,
She’s underage but escapes
To the Atlantis Lounge
Where the girls dance full-body birthday nude
To earn cash for a beautiful prom dress,
A prom that will never come.
When girls are completely nude,
Supposedly they ban the booze,
But the underage girl
And her blonde twenty-two year old friend,
Toss back shots of rum
In an effort to numb their souls
When it’s time to disrobe
For the defeated old men, the parasites
And the serial killers seeking entertainment.
When there is a lull in the evening
And the creeps tightly clutch their dollar bills

You Say You've Taken All The Tension Out Of Your Life
You say you've taken all the tension out of your life,
but to me you've just planed a mountain range
into a parking lot. Your sacred syllable is flatlining
like a synonym for death, and your eyes,
o those eyes were so blue once
I could have made a cult of the colour
and happily sacrificed myself on the altar
of a sky burial where the angels reverted to ravenous birds,
but now they're one way windows on a braille runway
for blind aliens on the Nazca plateau.
You talk like a tourist guide
with a photo-shopped cheeriness
in the same tone of immaculate voice
as if genesis were beginning all over again
with a logo in the mouth of a vociferous abyss.
I believe in your natural kindness,
those summers of feeling so much like August
out in the fields of an abandoned farm,
where the light kissed the fieldstones on the forehead

Tire Shop
I went down yesterday
to fix a leak in my tire. Off Bridge street
there's a place 95 cents
flats fixed,
smeary black paint on warped wood plank
between two bald tires.
I go in, an old Black man
with a Jackie Gleason hat greasy soft
with a mashed cigar stub in mouth
and another old Chicano man
working the other
pneumatic hissing tire changer. The walls are black with rubber
soot blown black dust everywhere
and rows of worn tires on gnawed board racks for sale,
air hoses snaking and looped over the floor.
I greet the two old men
'Yeah, how's it going!'
No response.
They look up at me as if I just gave them a week to live.
'I got a tire needs a tube.'

Life's A Genius
Life's a genius.
Not a mediocrity
looking for reasons to live in the morning.
Life's not a plan.
It's a spirit that doesn't need one
whether things go right or wrong.
Life is light and water.
It delights in going everywhere at once.
Mediocrities have genius
but they don't know how
to play with it like a child.
Their eyes peek
through knotholes in the fence
but they sacrifice their longing
on the conventional altars of common-sense
and never throw the ball back over the hills
like the moon coming up
or the sun going down
without worrying about
breaking the neighbours'windows.

I Want You
By paul buchanan
Its the middle of the night
Its been a long hard day
I see you walk my way
Say it baby
I want you
The jukebox laughing low
At the sad motel
Knows that I cant break your spell
Say it baby
I want you
Its my life and I know
Even though you dont show me
Am I right?
Am I wrong to believe in you?
Yeah yeah
Say it baby
I want you
