Eavan's Grandma
She feared the women
at the port when her
husband's ship docked
there the port.
She went to the port
to see her husband
each time he arrived
I like the man
and the wife.
'Aren't they
the same kind of girls
anyway? ' he thinks,
she doesn't know it.

In The Wells of Silence
In the wells of silence
a dropp of word
might stir
the whole tranquility
of the utter silence
and a dropp of sigh
might disturb the whole
serenity there
What about a dropp of God's sigh
and a dropp of Jesus' blood
combined?
That will be a new revolution! ! ! ! !

Snow
One day a bird sang
a song in some far away country.
It could be heard
from this shore.
In that country, it was snowing.
The song, however, came back
crossing the ocean to this shore.
It reached the shore
with the snow though.

A Young Lad
A young Lad
one day
very quietly,
softly, gently
and artistically
confessed his love
to a young maiden
as quiet,
soft, gentle
and artistic

I See (Revised/Reposted)
I see
Death
Lurking
In their eyes....
There on the battlefields
That have a thousand names...
Iwo Jima, San Juan Hill,
Wounded Knee, Gettysburg,
London, Belfast,
Berlin, Africa, Jerusalem,
Viet Nam, Iraq....
The tide never stops....
And I see
Death
Lurking
In their eyes.

A Greek Wedding
Flowers are white
They were everywhere
the bride went
People in white robes stood around
the bride
singing a farewell song
I cried.
The bride then stepped
out towards the alter
with her mother

A Bright Shining Star
A bright shining star
fell on a desert.
He went deep down
into the sand hills.
A few years had passed.
The wind finally discovered him.
He asked the star, 'Why are you here? '
The star said, 'I fell
accidently from the sky.'
Then the wind asked again,
'Why don't you try to go up? '
The star answered, “Because I am a star,
I don't have to go up.'

Fox
Mother gave birth
to a baby boy
he got bit
by a fox
and began
to lose his weight
The fox was
caught
and was made
into mother's
keep-warm ornament
eventually.
His eyes still
blinked blue
at nights
I flinched
several times
when I lay
on my stomach
before his eyes

The Old Family Picture
In the old
black-and-white
family picture,
I see
great grandfather
dead drunk
with his hat
slightly skewed.
In the same old
black-and-white
family picture,
I see
grandfather
as drunk as
his father is
with his hat
also slightly skewed.
Father fools
great grandfather
and grandfather

On the Uses of Adversity
"Nam nihil est, quod non mortalibus afferat usum."
--PETRONIUS
Nothing there is that mortal man may utterly despise;
What in our wealth we treasured, in our poverty we prize.
The gold upon a sinking ship has often wrecked the boat,
While on a simple oar a shipwrecked man may keep afloat.
The burglar seeks the plutocrat, attracted by his dress--
The poor man finds his poverty the true preparedness.
