The Leaf

The Leaf.

On my walks I picked up a perfectly formed elm leaf,
the colour of dry tobacco. In Norway, during the Nazi
occupation, people had tobacco plants in back yards.
Perhaps carrots and cabbage had been healthier.
Put the leaf on top of a white wall and took a picture.
The wind came and blew it away. I brief meeting of
equals and a memory

Sea Rose

Rose, harsh rose,
marred and with stint of petals,
meagre flower, thin,
sparse of leaf,

more precious
than a wet rose
single on a stem --
you are caught in the drift.

Stunted, with small leaf,
you are flung on the sand,
you are lifted
in the crisp sand
that drives in the wind.

Can the spice-rose
drip such acrid fragrance
hardened in a leaf?

What's Your Name?

while walking...
i stopped beneath a tree,
and spoke to a leaf:
'what's your name? '

the leaf paused for a moment,
and spoke,
'you can call me child of the limb,
or child of the tree,
or child of the earth,
or child of the sun and rain...

or you can just call me, Bob!
what's your name? '

i thought for a moment,
and smiled:
'you can just call me...
.....leaf! '

Sea Poppies

Amber husk
fluted with gold,
fruit on the sand
marked with a rich grain,

treasure
spilled near the shrub-pines
to bleach on the boulders:

your stalk has caught root
among wet pebbles
and drift flung by the sea
and grated shells
and split conch-shells.

Beautiful, wide-spread,
fire upon leaf,
what meadow yields
so fragrant a leaf
as your bright leaf?

A Top made of a Coconut Tree Leaf

A weaving magic on a green coconut tree leaf ;
The leaf top rotates on the childhood rod fast.
No canker, the child runs with the top of green leaf,
Which, making the rustic road dizzy, spins fast.
Moss of disgust never gathers on the spinning top;
The drooping boredom spins away, as the child runs
With the top.It withers and gets slow under hot rays.
It did spin clockwise: one wishes anti-clockwise.

A Globule on the Colocasia Leaf

All unite, then one remains,
And now it vibrates
On the colocasia leaf
In the light noon wind.

It’s serene soon, and spreads a
Rainbow on the leaf
In the light sunshine.

It’s a tiny spectrum, which
Sparkles and fades as the
Sun rays come and go.

It’s a transient miracle, which
None can put on the palm
Without losing it’s splendour.

It’s the purest rain globule,
On the colocasia leaf,
Like a thought drop, which

Awareness

I picked a leaf up from the ground
and compared it to my hand.
Its veins were strikingly similar
and wondered was it planned
that all of life is connected
in ways we tend to forget?
The beauty of this connection
is startling and yet
I know that as the leaf withers away
others will take its place.
And I, like you my dearest friends
will also have to face
withering from gusts of wind
that make the dry leaf unseen.
likened to the gusts of wind
that will wipe our slates clean.

Family Tree

There's love within our family tree
and happiness abound.
Its roots are deeply planted
in rich and fertile ground.

We enjoy the rays of sunlight
and endure the winds and rain,
and when a leaf falls from our tree,
together we share the pain.

God gave us earthly families
and never did intend,
that bonds of love built on Earth
upon our death should end.

For when our life is over
and from earth our souls will flee,
one by one, leaf by leaf,
He'll rejoin our family tree.

A Leaf Has Fallen

A leaf has fallen on the ground,
Beliefs have solutions that astound;
Every tree that believed in its wood
Shall learn pain from the heavenly adulthood.

A leaf has fallen on the ground,
Solutions do stem from what is around;
All the flowers give messages in the air,
Their overly beautiful appearance is anywhere.

A leaf has escaped from the branches of a tree
As the wind blows on the older apples carefully;
Their sweetness is called ripeness,
It is the quality of happiness.

The leaf in the wind

The leaf in the wind
Missed the tree
The tree it was in
That made it be

It fell to the porch
A child held it
And gave it a stroke
Then gently left it

The wind came again
And took it to the sky
Then the sky rained
And it fell to lie

The things on the ground
Kept pushing it away
The wind had an angry sound
It wanted it in its way
