Things I Miss The Most
I swear I gave up drinkin';
Sometimes I have no choice,
After singin' hard, six nights straight,
A little sip sure helps my voice.
Don't get me wrong, I love these songs,
An' I know I've got it made.
Sometimes my mind starts driftin',
When I'm up here on the stage.
To that last half-mile of dirt road,
An' that oak tree on the hill.
To those dogs out, barkin' in the yard,
An' that tractor in the field.
An' them kids up on the front porch,
Screamin': "Mamma, Daddy's home!"
When I'm out here, I'm just thinkin',
About the things I miss the most.
Yeah, the hardest bthing I have to do,
Is hang up this telephone.
There's so much left to talk about,
An' I been gone so long.

The Auction Sale
Within the great grey flapping tent
The damp crowd stood or stamped about;
And some came in, and some went out
To drink the moist November air;
None fainted, though a few looked spent
And eyed some empty unbought chair.
It was getting on. And all had meant
Not to go home with empty hands
But full of gain, at little cost,
Of mirror, vase, or vinaigrette.
Yet often, after certain sales,
Some looked relieved that they had lost,
Others, at having won, upset.
Two men from London sat apart,
Both from the rest and each from each,
One man in grey and one in brown.
And each ignored the others face,
And both ignored the endless stream
Of bed and bedside cabinet,
Gazing intent upon the floor,

Visiting the Temple of Accumulated Fragrance
I didn’t know where the temple was,
pushing mile on mile among cloudy peaks;
old trees, peopleless paths,
deep mountains, somewhere a bell.
Brook voices choke over craggy boulders,
sun rays turn cold in the green pines.
At dusk by the bend of a deserted pond,
a monk in meditation, taming poison dragons.

Detroit, the heart of the country... I grew up on 10 Mile, 2 miles better than 8 Mile.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he'll be a mile away - and barefoot.

Taking a Walk
As you walk
The world passes by
Faces sound scent
Walking is always
Time well spent!
Winds embrace
They kiss on your face
Around you fleeting smile
You walk
Mile after mile!

Mile Davis
Is playing in his orchestra
In heaven
For God
And all the saints in heaven
Mary and joseph
Is praising
Mile Davis
For his beautiful
Music that he brings to heaven with him

And so it is..
And so it is..
Words become home
A place to call our very own
Familiar branches of tree
Deep-rooted eternally
And so it is..
We smile
We keep on walking
Mile for mile
'Tis 'tis
And so it is..

Career Changing Incident
The policeman helped
arrest a man and put him
in the squad car.
The man's dog, mad with fear,
ran behind the car, mile after
mile. He was hit at an
intersection. Subsequently
he was healed, but the incident
caused the policeman to resign
from a job which did not allow
him his own conscience.

I Have a Dream...
Your Heart
Will always be Smart
Your Class
Will never Pass
I Have a Dream…
Your Kiss
Will not Miss
Your Smile
Will flow Mile after Mile
I Have a Dream…
Your Eyes
Will reach the Sky
Your Love
Will float like a Dove
I Have a Dream…
Your Choices
Will have Voices
