Polka Dot Bikini

Yonks ago,
On a beach in the land of sugar cane,
A girl
Wore a purple
Polka dot bikini
And eyed the sea
Like a matador might eye a bull.

Yonks ago,
On a beach in the land of sangomas,
A girl
Ran to the ocean's edge,
Long hair burning,
Blowing windward and wayward
In the pure blue sunshine.

Yonks ago,
On a beach in the land of ijuba beer,
A girl
Dived under,

To Catch A Falling Star

My heart was once a falling star
That burned with a dying light
But her fall was not very far
As you plucked her from the night

Most carefully you sighed a kiss
Keeping her fragile light aflame
And oh what a grand gesture was this
As she was not an easy star to tame

You held her close in your warm embrace
Praying the little star reclaim her glow
Quickly she returned from her fall from grace
As it was your love that helped her light grow

When all the heaven's bemoaned her return
You so gently tossed her back to the night
And how fierce does her little flame burn
Ever will she shine within your love's light

Emily Sparks

Where is my boy, my boy --
In what far part of the world?
The boy I loved best of all in the school? --
I, the teacher, the old maid, the virgin heart,
Who made them all my children.
Did I know my boy aright,
Thinking of him as a spirit aflame,
Active, ever aspiring?
Oh, boy, boy, for whom I prayed and prayed
In many a watchful hour at night,
Do you remember the letter I wrote you
Of the beautiful love of Christ?
And whether you ever took it or not,
My boy, wherever you are,
Work for your soul's sake,
That all the clay of you, all of the dross of you,
May yield to the fire of you,
Till the fire is nothing but light!...
Nothing but light!

A Heartfelt Smile

Your smile in this ambient grace
Her refulgence here sets aglow
While many still prefer to frown
To douse every flicker and glare

And your unfeigned smile grants
Her brilliance each morn' sprang
After my nights a glitter starved
Your smile, duly welcome prayed

Others their feigned smile dole
Hidden frowns beneath a wave
Yours unpretentious and brave
Set to compose a troubled soul

Her genuineness is illuminating
Real, heartfelt and invigorating
To set aflame my slothful spirit
Effuse inspiration without limit

Through This One Union

She stood before him defiant
He came to her his body aflame
His desire evident in his pose
Their union would ignite a world.

Her body showed nothing of her battle
She wanted no more than to soar
Along this road of discovery
She would glisten in the afterglow.

As the powers collided
A spiral of disturbance was felt
Within this eddy of emotion
Two bodies where united as one.

Their epic battle would last an eternity
As their minds tested the theories
New stars would appear
The discoveries where immense

Archetypical Etchings

Black bear skins swing, clinging to the shamans skin.
Dance the night aflame. Keeping in sight the boundary
Frameworks that keep your sanity in place.

Laid bare, the fragile order of power is showered in anxiety,
The people are un-happy in not knowing why it is they must
Work so hard. Archetypical etchings upon souls inscribed
Leave shadows of memories past.

Beyond time, within the moment, we find ourselves in Rome.
Whores lay stark upon the rooftops, screaming profanity for more
Than their share, as wives are left at home to care for the young
Lecherous fools prey upon their daughters. What horror could
Peel at your morality more so than this?

The Extra Mile

The Extra Mile
Date: July 13,2012

My longing remains unclaimed
Flustered by the winds of change
Whipped around and tossed awry
Leaving me to wonder why

The perfect match, would set aflame
A perfect love, not silly games
A fire that burns without remorse
Not some hoax or Trojan horse

A passion true, would never hide
Would walk ahead and push aside
If mountains high, obscure the path
Come tumbling down, beneath its wrath

A love that life allows to be
Would not be swayed by trickery

The Case For Love As Storm

for Crimson Love

This can only go well.

I hold your hand
throughout the storm.

We swell together.
Two seeds break open.

I day your arbor.
You arbor my need.

Let us not plead our
case for love as storm.

Here we are warm in the park after
dark beneath the newspaper wet.

Anna Hazare is...

A hope anew for Indians all;
A spark that set aflame most hearts;
A road that leads to righteous ends;
A mind that thinks of freedom new.

A fast that captured many souls;
A chant that caught the lips of youth;
A speech that lured global Indians;
A song that turned a haunt aloud!

A soul that followed Gandhi’s steps;
A heart that loves all fellowmen;
A man who fights corrupt brethren;
A voice who vows for justice’s sake.

A phenomenon new to world;
A brave who wakes the lion-hearts;
A call that’s clarion and noble;
A freedom fighter with great cause!

Sonnet: Life’s Candle Flame

Our life is like a candle-wick aflame,
Whose glowing brightness drives darkness away,
And keeps on burning though a fierce Wind came,
To sputter, spew forth smoke, all night ‘til day.

A blowing Gale can make us burn too fast;
The wind can put the flame off premature;
Both wick and wax must synchronously last;
Our teacher best is dear Mother Nature.

How long each candle lasts? No one can tell;
How bright the flame can be? Depends on us;
Yet, some waste wick and wax to burn like hell!
God expects us to burn steady sans fuss.

A candle ought to light the world that’s dark;
Yet, burn with steadiness without a spark!
