Quotes about succumb, page 9

In The Fog

As the fog settles on top the restless land,
I wonder if this is the fog of sleep.
Does the earth need to rest?
I would not be suprised, we place many toils on it.
Why do people dislike the fog?
They say it is only a hassle.
Something man should take control of.
Let the earth succumb to the sandmans sweet embrace.
It's dreams are beyond our comprehension.
Sleep deep, sweet earth, and we may do so together.
In the fog,
Forever and ever.

Nyx, the night

Can’t sleep again for some reason
perhaps I’m drinking too much tea.
Well, whatever the cause, it’s done.
I’ll try again later…maybe!
Meantime, I’ll work on this poem-
A way to pass the time away
until black-robed Nyx finds me home
And cast her spell without delay.
My mind grows weary, she has come
Whose dark light falls from nighttime stars
And Man and gods all must succumb.
Her sightless eyes in one dark sweep
induces half the world to sleep.

A Poem About Miracles

Why don't the records go blank
the instant the singer dies?
Oh, I know there are explanations
but they don't convince me
I'm still surprised
When I hear the dead singing
As for orchestra's
I expect the Instruments
To fall silent one by one
as the musicians succumb
to cancer and heart disease
so that toward the end
I turn on a disc
labelled Gotterdammerung
and all that comes out
is the sound of one sick old man
scraping a shaky bow
across an out-of-tune fiddle.

Choices

We can think like angels
but the devil has said
'Take off your wings
come into my bed.'

We can act like angels
and refuse instead,
reject the pleasurable devil
and remain in our bed.

We can spread our wings
and soar with grace
or discard our wings
and in the mirror face

the eyes of betrayal,
the look of disgust,
the lure of the devil
and our sinful lust.

I Judge

Who amongst us can be known
never to have cast the first stone?

I doubt that any can answer "I"
For all adhere to an eye for an eye.

Does not come easy to turn the other cheek.
The will is there but the resolve is weak.

We think one way but succumb to another.
We forget that all are sister and brother.

And so we must try on every day
to understand there's a better way.

I try all the time to judge no one.
But after all is said and done
I judge.

Worshipping Goodness

I bow down before you God
Not because I'm servile
Or seek your favour,
It's not an unquestioning surrender.
I bow down before you God
Not because I sense
That before your omnipotence
I must succumb as a dumb.
I bow down before you God
Not to seek your blessing
Nor to please or appease you,
It's no fear of an unseen power.
I bow down before you God
Not seeking heaven or other abode
But knowing all the world's goodness
I can see in my heart as your face.

I Suffer The Night

I suffer the night
When it's time to face my sadness
And all I can do is cry

I suffer the night
When I struggle to find rest
Knowing in the morning I must rise

I suffer the night
When alone in the darkness
I wonder why I am alive

I suffer the night
When I succumb to blackness
And finally stop asking why

I suffer the night
As it battles my mind
And my spirit slowly dying

The Beauty of War

War
You are a beauty
For roundtable evaders
Always the sole option
Polished erstwhile weaponry
The beauty of war

War
You are a beauty
For lovers of environment
Scorching terrain
From vegetation into scarlet
With ripples of blood
The beauty of war

War
You are a beauty
However long it takes
However deep the destruction
By the bulldozers of death

Me and mine remembered our and ours forgotten

“Me” and “mine”
Remembered
“Our” and “ours” forgotten
The web of greed
Increasing
Trust in our own
Decreasing
Everybody forgetting
Many threads make a rope
Rope can withstand
Typhoons jointly
Even mild breeze
Can fly a single thread
In anonymity
Being together
Makes everybody strong
Only me
Makes one succumb
Easily
So forget “me”

Blissful Ignorance

As I grow old to my surprise
I’ve slowly come to realise.
That every thing I thought I knew
is mostly if not all untrue.

The things which I was taught at school.
They too must succumb to the rule
that truths like fashions quickly change.
New truths emerge to re-arrange.

The currently accepted view
when new facts have been proven true
at an ever increasing rate.
I simply can’t keep up to date.

I do not let it worry me
I jog along quite happily.
