Our community is like many around the country that have, as the gentleman from New York referenced, sophisticated planning and zoning regulations. These are elements that are developed as a result of local community pressure to balance interests.

Invite the best and brightest to compete for a grand prize to come up with designs, including new zoning, building codes and so forth, for New Orleans that could make it safe from water, and let the state and city pick the plan that works best for Louisiana.

The world around me is a knife like a friend who
stabs you when you least expect it.
When the tensions are high,
and you have to cut through it.
And when you chop up your life,
to make it more interesting.

The world around me is a lecture,
being somewhere you don’t want to be.
Just sitting there zoning out,
into a better place.
Looking around not really noticing,
the people around you,
or what the say.

The world around me is a storm.
It will be nice one moment,
and the next it will be hectic.
Be waiting for that nice day,

Teh Mongo Experiment....

yes, we put the mongo seed
inside a carboard box and
there is no opening, not even
a peeping hole,

on the other same sized carboard
box with another similar mongo seed
an orifice is made,

the two sprouted but the one
with the opening finally finds
its exit and we meet the word

The Network

All the watchers gather, eyes alight with lucid reflections
their pulse pounds together, their fingers fly as one
thousands and thousands, awaiting the latest and greatest
zoning out and staring in, they pretend they are alive

This story has the makings of an epic ghost, a festival-maker
or the ruined guts of terrorism if the watchers think in anger
'Who would take away my little place of peace in the pie
that person, the blinking blue terrorist, deserves to die.'

So many origins are among the free thinking eyes and ears
untarnished by the hum or buzz that makes slaves and saviors
they don’t know the true power of media or martial prowess
But throw themselves unthinking at the fray with hope as a shield

Smiling grains of pixilated magic, among the wordy corridors
that transform a man’s desperate hope into campaigns of horrors
they think that because they have the viral green thought
they should make what they will of the world with things bought

Chick-Fil-A vs. Chicago

With all the violence going on in the world there is one controversy,
And it is not about an Alderman's or Chicago Mayor's idiosyncrasy,
It has to do with all pertinent things notwithstanding, a Chick-Fill-A,
The denial of opening an eatery because of what the owner had to say.

Mind you, this is Chicago where gang violence is on par with Iraq,
Going to public school is like Afghanistan as you might come back,
Certified dead, not from RPG's or IED's but from gunshot wounds,
7 year-old Heaven Sutton killed selling lemonade was way too soon.

Rham Emanuel lashed out at thugs responsible, "Who raised you? "
Well, actually Mr. Mayor, the exact same question is proposed too,
For your agreeing with Alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno on this ban,
As company President Dan Cathy agrees with God & not with man.

'Chick-Fil-A values are not Chicago values, ' this mayor has said,
I should hope so, imagine eating chicken fingers ending up dead,
While drug transactions, car jacking & all felonies continue to rise,
I've never heard of death by gunshot for not turning over your fries.

My next-door neighbor is gone
Two small U-haul trucks
Were parked in their driveway
When I got home Friday

Clouds In My House

Zoning in a hall of glass
plasma flowing from a cask
piercing overtones
mainline into my back pack
it's full of clouds in my house
a grey hive, humming white souls
frenzy reviving the room
energized by many flumes
drip-drop, on my head
wakes me from a thousand moons
circle dance inside the cave
all movement brings a message
larvae, in their holes
waiting for a summer daze
