Reminders

The ever present reminders
Of death are seemingly nearby:
A calm sunny day that excites
Two lovers’ whimsical fancies
Are momentarily dashed by
The scent of unseen rotting flesh
Carried on a summertime breeze;
Me passing a cemetery
And breathing a sigh of sadness
For living a life sans brother
Father, mother and a sister;
But then the thought evaporates
Like a summertime morning dew-
Only to reappear anew.
