Bending Grass

Father swore....again
I moved another bead
on my multicolored abacus
I wondered who 'his' shepherd is
Then I remembered the lore
I'd heard....about his days
on hills above the town
nights watching sheep and stars
alone with his simple self
varmints greedy eyes waiting
to see him yawn
He kept them safe
they murmured still
restless as down
on prairie's lawn
All he said was
My eyelids ate of glass
a spiritual snake to pass
though my name's unknown
I watch you bending grass
