My Esmeralda
My Esmeralda
I drew a line in the sand
And I hoped that you’d cross
But if you didn’t
There would be a cost
I didn’t mention
Nor did I say
What it might be
Yet to me
The bar was set high
And it might cause me
Great suffering
For in my heart
I held hope
And I prayed
That you would emerge
From the shadows
To prove me wrong
That you’d prove me sane
By showing the world your true name
Or was my hopes set to high
Are you really all that shy
So you do love your guy
And all we have is a lie
I have not written
A single poem in Mexico
In all of the time
I have spent there
I don’t think I’ll start
Writing poetry in Mexico any time soon
And may the bettors
Do as they will
And if WE be damned
Then
So be it
My Esmeralda
