Memory
I remember once,
when I was a little girl
I remember
like it was yesterday
When I saw you
sauntering down the street
My heart
skipped a beat
I got out of the car
and I followed you
Calling out, 'Daddy! '
Over and over,
again and again
You began to walk faster
Then so did I
So much faster
that I tripped
and fell
Knees and palms
skinned and burning
But I never took
my eyes off of you
Until you disappeared
Into some
darkened doorway
and you
never
once
looked back
