The Moments After
In the moments after you had gone
It seemed as though time had
Gathered together
To stand beside me,
Perfectly still
Waiting expectantly for me
To cry or scream
To speak or just to breathe
My first breath alone
Without you
Lonliness poured itself empty into me
Filling all of the spaces
Sorrow had missed
In the moments after you had gone
The world was suddenly strange
And cold
All that I once knew to be true
Became secrets untold
Noises whispered softly around me
Careful not to disturb the
Fragile awareness
That insists it is real
That I see but don't recognize
That I touch yet can't feel
What once was is no more
Now each and every moment
Consists of the moments after
And not one moment before
