My Daughter, My Pride
Like a thousand needles, the pain shot through me
It was only for a few seconds but it felt like a life time you see
And as suddenly as it came, it stopped
And I ceased the moment to grab the phone, but then my heart stopped
As I realized it wasn't working
Damned phone, of all days to stop working
Shhh, calm down my Angelica
It's going to be okay, I silently whispered, the clinic is not that far
I grabbed my coat, car keys and rushed to the car
I sat there for a while as a rush of pain shot through me again
Another few seconds of pain
And my foot was on the pedal
And I drove like a racer seeking a medal
Counting down hoping the next pains would be at the stop sign
I made it just in time
And after hours of excruciating pain
I gave birth to a princess born from pain
But, with one gummy smile
She wiped it all away and my heart couldn't help but smile
16 years later, growing up so quickly
My Angelica was the town's beauty
Her beautiful locks of golden hair were tied in a bun
Pearls gracing her hair glittered when in the sun
She had a natural beauty
God's finest creation, splendor was her duty
Deep emerald green eyes
Long sooty lashes to shade her eyes
Skin so creamy, so fair she must have bathed in milk
Her lilac dress made from the finest silk
Angelica, so rightly named, she was of heavenly beings
For all she needed was a halo and a pair of wings
She had worked so hard to be the best
And now she earned a role well above the rest
The prima donna of the ballet
The swan in Swan Lake the famous ballet
How I longed that your father had been here to see this moment
See you shine, your hour your moment
I am sure he is watching you down from above
And smiling down proudly with lots of love
I cannot wait for the day she becomes someone's bride
My daughter, my pride
