Brass Lantern Winds

We were riding our horses smoothly,
returning from war, bullets torn through
me, my friends, a rancher and a priest
veterans
we just have passed the morning mist.

(bullet riddled right through) , riding slowly
bloody sweat drops - dropp on the ground
'My friends the priest says, I 'll sit amidst
this longhorn
tall grass, the flowers, the buzzing bees..'

So we sit. I, the sailor, wearily pull out
my saddle bags, three bottles of liquor,
'try it buds, in my parts, of this we drink,
trustfully
for med, and cure, 'Rakee' triply distilled'

So we drink and drink, sip by sip (we drink)
slow bloody drops slowly fall, 'My friends,
the farmer says, I 'll leave, I 'll miss my home
my sweet
waiting gal, my land, my cattle that roam.'

'No, no my friend', I say, 'you have to dance
for this med to act'. Dubiously he stands
I, the sailor stand, staggering, we dance,
atop the land -
on longhorn tall, with bees and birds, green grass

colors and such, regain strength, drink, jump
with butterflies, finches, daisies, poppies,
as soon as red drops, dropp on the ground,
we laugh
support each, up we jump, on earthen mound

as there was of no logic, a blaze of hope was,
a body riddled right through, we roll a smoke,
sip by sip, we smoke.. Sweetly red drops, drop
'I think I 'll rest'
The farmer goes, 'good med, as epitope'

And sleeps and sleeps.. 'Brass lantern winds'
I mumble a foolish song we sung aboard..
'Almighty God', I hear the priest, 'Scared I be!
scared I be...
Find me God, I cannot find thee...'
