Content for MY Lady Irene

My lady’s sleeping peacefully
I slip beside her into bed.
She turns to me instinctively
without a word though much is said.
She does not wake although she stirs
settles herself more comfortably.
I hold her close as she prefers.
A feeling of security.
She slips into a deeper sleep
content because I’m by her side.
I see no need for counting sheep
as slowly into sleep I slide.
Togetherness is all we need
mutual love our only creed
