The Sleep of Ages

O how I long to sleep the sleep of ages,
To slumber deep in cold Egyptian tombs,
In cobweb-covered catacombs and cages,
Encased by dust and musty old mushrooms!

My lonely, jaded soul I'll trade to Time,
With fragments of my faded hopes and dreams,
Exchanging them for something more sublime-
A toothless skull to hold my folded schemes!

And outside life still rumbles, roars and rages!
But not for me, oh no, but not for me,
For I am deep within that sleep of ages,
So faraway, and happy as can be!
