Hotel 7 Up, 1971

In early seventies
at Trichur town
on Station road,
there was an restaurant
named ‘Hotel 7 UP'

whenever, I passed through,
I used to wonder at the
selection of the name ‘7 UP',
since, in those days no one knew
anything of Pepsi, Coca, Fanta or 7 UP

though in size, the hotel is small
it was enjoying good credentials
for appam, puttu, kadalai, & anda curry -
very special was its ‘light tea'
served in sparkling cup and saucers

slowly, I became an addict to its
‘light tea', and started visiting frequent.
in one go, I would order two cups
the owner, happily, presented me ‘7 Up key-chain'

Fashion Fabrics, Elite Fabrics - Casino, Peechi, Ollur tiles
Poorum grounds, circular roads, Town hall, zoological gardens
Chakkola group, football, coconutoil wholesale, puttanpalli'
Guruvayur, Kunnamkulam, Chavakkad were the popular -
landmarks

no other town has made such a lasting scar
in my memory lane, as Trichur did, being the
first place where I started my career,
in Oct,1971 as a Telephone Operator,
with a salary of Rs.110 p.m.

……….then started, a great journey, bitter and sweet,
a life-span is lost, still I am not matured……….
