Us And We
Once
I saw a tree breathe
Her leaves were scorched by draught
and the hot August breeze
The bark crumbling off
where ants were taking advantage
Their mandibles stinging
into the white flesh beneath
I began spraying her with water
when without thinking
I heard myself speak audibly
'There now, I hope that makes you feel better.'
And then the frequency of our energies
became combined
in rhythmic communication
as the lines began to blur
between being human
and being tree
When then a bird landed on us
and we were three
Our community superseding individuality
