That’s the last of school
for a while
she said
as you both descended
the school bus
and walked home
with her sister and yours
walking a small distance behind
any chance you could meet me later?
you asked
have to see
if Mother wants me
to do chores
she replied
maybe after?
you asked
she sighed
and looked up
at the late
afternoon sky
you caught her profile
and the way her cheek
was so kissable
and yet you didn’t
you just stared
have to see
won’t we
don’t want her
getting in one
of her moods
you walked on
in silence awhile
then she said
