Deities of Destiny

I’ve spent so much time
Trying to catch a lonely dream
And visiting flower markets;
I’ve sat in the moonlight
And spoken to the tall girl
At the tea house in the river town.

I’ve got so much love to confess
On summer nights
When the breeze is swaying
The lilac trees,
The promises and sacred oaths I’ve made
While dancing to the radio and flickering candlelight.

There are simple plans
That make up a life,
The church bells and wedding chapels,
Her sweet perfume on my lapel.

My soul was pure when I saw her
And my eyes were opening
In an attempt to communicate
Something precious that could redeem
A thousand mistakes and psychic wounds
Down the despairing roads of yesterday.

I said a prayer beside her photograph
And went my way believing in the presence
Of powerful deities of destiny.
