Slender Shoulders

Sidewalk in the rain,
I’m walking to her house
In the Sunday-overcast landscape
Of the lonely city
Trying to find sunlight
Through the mist
Of my longing heart
And ceaseless thoughts.

A weekend marathon
For a beautiful friend,
She runs for the hope
Of a new beginning;
Birds in the park
Along her path
Sing for her
Like I’ve sang for her.

Yesterday’s dream
Dissolves into myth
But I’m dreaming again
Of her slender shoulders
In a summer dress,
I promise never to forget
Saturday night tears
And poignant conversations.

I’m reciting prayers
In the shrine light
Of her eyes,
I solemnly write my words
Like hieroglyphics
On pyramid walls.

I have to see her again
In a wineglass café
Or a library reading room,
Every day, I exit into a reverie
Along the gorgeous boulevards
Of imagination
To become closer
To the presence
Of her magical essence.
