Memorial Of Hope

The world is weary of its pain,
Of selfish greed and fruitless gain
Of tarnished honour, falsely strong, ,
And all its ancient deeds of wrong
With sins and doubts and fear.
Yet people scale through and sleep happily.

Mindful hearts are glad to keep
A tryst of love with them that that sleep.
Not names engraved in marble
Make the best memorials of the dead,
But burdens shouldered for their sake
And tasks completed in their stead.

Mercy gave us joy for tears,
And a gift of life to all who lives
Looking down on all earth’s sin and strife
Lifted us to a nobler life
To brighten hopes and kindlier things
To visions of a larger good.
