All Right, I’ll Sign The Papers

Many years ago we fell in love,
and wedding bells did ring,
but as the years went on,
our love began to run cold.
Disagreements turned into fights,
that lasted weeks at a time.
I could see the sadness,
creeping into our children’s faces all the time.
Then one day we realised,
our love would never regain.
So we went for counselling,
to try and ease the pain.
Their words did nothing,
to dispel the way we felt.
Next it was the lawyers,
and the divorce court.
Finally I said all right,
I’ll sign the papers,
and we’ll go our separate ways.

Summer Affair

The summer is almost over
and winter is almost here,
the sky of blue is turning grey
as the long nights are coming in.
They said our love
was only a summer affair
and after the chill of winter,
no love will be there.

Our summer affair has lasted
longer than they thought
and it brought happiness
the kind few have ever seen.
It brought us contentment
with our children three
and it brought everlasting love
just for you and me.

Years have passed
since that summer

A Summer Affair

The summer is almost over,
and winter is almost here.
The skies of blue are turning grey,
as the long nights are coming in.
They said our love was only
a summer affair.
After the chill of winter,
no love would be there.

Years have passed
since that summer,
and our love still grows each day.
We’ve had our good and bad times,
and together we have seen them through.
Our love is strong,
and even in our twilight years,
together we will be here.

Our summer affair has lasted,
longer than they thought.

All Tired Out

All fired up, all tired out,
The lion cub was through
And now there wasn't any doubt,
For no more could he do...
His little legs had run a mile,
By chasing all that moved
And though he lasted for a while,
Right now he must be soothed...

His precious paws had tender toes,
His muscles needed rest,
He only had a tiny nose
For air from east to west...
He watched the gliding clouds go by
And lay there hypnotised,
As they serenely sailed the sky
Across the land he prized...

One day he'd be the lion king
Who'd dominate for sure,

The Song For My Beloved

The song for my beloved, voiced sweetly to thee-
My opus, others may only surmise as to its beauty!
A melodious tune surely, yet there be not word-
The love in my heart, the only sounds heard!

Its magic seen, its power felt-over many a mile-
Many years its nemesis, though it lasted all the while!
Nothing is there surely to dispute its glory,
So is the wondrous tale of my heart's story!

In every beautiful moment, I hear it louder still-
In the power of the summer sun, the winter's chill;
I hear it as when, to me, He did deliver-
Hear it surely, as my heart doth quiver!

This, my melodic muse, since I was young-
Surely, the sweetest song ever to be sung!

A Journey

You sped into your mother's womb
rooting in its warm embrace,
you the sperm who won the race.

There you grew, snug and protected.
until, to the world you were
ejected

Your baby buds blossomed
and up you grew,
strong and handsome, all brand new.

You peaked at about twenty two,
you were tall and broad
and beautiful.

I fell in love with your manly form,
you were gallant,
brave and dutiful.

Steps of Gold (Cold War)

After victory the Cold War struck,
The golden steps destroyed,
That rememberance we all shared,
War took the toll again.

But this one lasted thirty years,
Never to end or start,
Nicely though there wasn't war,
In this crimson heart.

It was an arms race to the end,
God forbid open war,
For if war occured death would strike,
The men tired and confused.

The golden steps never came back,
The ones to peace and bliss,
But that is only a wish in the future,
A golden wish that is.

The Brushfire While it Lasted

1. On Top of Smokey Mountain

Dawn is pale on these waifs’ faces,
Sun rays striking their thin backs.
The colour of refuse here is bright:
Worms sepia, cans gooey, faeces black.
A country will rise from excreta.

2. Slumdogs

Rain coming through this window is warm
Slithering from hot tin gutters;
Bullet-hot roofs sizzle in the rain,
Bloated foetuses float in city waters.
“The baby’s wet! Plug the roof hole, Lakay.! ”

3.People Power

It is the hunger on brown wrinkles
lined in the irony of parched lips

Franz Werfel

One Hour Ater The Dance Of Death

I lay in the abyss, where twisting squeezing
The lowest form of life pushed itself peristaltically.
Where slippery and slimy worm and eel entwined,
I was a worm myself, overwhelmed with exhaustion.

This lasted an eon before I succeeded,
And one of my senses could slowly lift itself up,
The sense of hearing. Listening, it scouted out if
The dancer, Death, had finally waltzed into the distance.

I eavesdrop breathless. Then a sparkling chromatic scale
Flows wanly from the open window next door.
Maybe Death is sitting there tuning his piano.

And while my life enjoys zestfully eating and fills with gas,
I feel him lean in that requisite little side room,
Where he invisibly reads, rustling the evening paper.

As bright as the biggest star

As bright as the biggest star
in that dark night,
your smile lasted
much longer
than just for a while.

With the moon
straying away
to romance at another place,
night came sooner
than was expected
and your lips
was soft and sweet
upon mine.

Somewhere a bird called
for its mate,
and the night was young
and our love
was again fresh and new
