Festival Navarathri

Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswathi
Decked up glittering with litanies
Dining
On the top of nine steps
With their friendly celestials down
Respectively
Accompanying a band of humans
And super-humans, flora and fauna
Environmentally resourceful
Of hill, river, park, play-ground
Amazingly even a city
Neat like the old of new excavation
At a concert of music
Braided long with Jasmine
Draped with silk skirt and saree
Bejewelled
Over a feast of 'Sundal' varieties
Blessing by turn of three each
In nine days
Partying on the tenth, the 'weapon-day'

Diatronic - Chromatic

Cotton clouds floating spirit
Overhanging waves of blue
A cord of high ignites a space
Vibrate, high and low

Zoom of fire within the veins
Volcanoes of golden flow
Seizes the celestial sphere
Pumping out the show
Symphonic body puppeteers
In the mist of the heated air
Quickening the pace
Boom! Boom!
Frenzied Space

proscenium stage, Part 1
Transcending wave of sound,
wired, Emotions, estatic,
wild, aggressive, crowned!

Notes On Praxie's Concert

it has no more teeth
what it has are deep sunken eyes
like an eclipse
the sound is harsh and the
ambiance is dark blue
and it faded
the tables were already
empty

a lady beside me
has gray hairs
she must be older
by twenty years
like the awaiting of
this concert

she gives me the reason
for watching
she comes from a far place
it was the talks

Only Way

The only way that Nichols
could have any control

over his wife or put a smile
on her face was to put on

a Gerry Mulligan record and
turn it up loud so that the

cool baritone saxophone of
Mulligan could work its wonders

and she would say Why he’s
so sexy and that sax of his it

drives me crazy and Nichols
knew he was second best to

that Mulligan guy and once
when he took her to a jazz

Americans In Paris

Americans in Paris
rarely will embarrass
the Frenchies,
who, when they’re in Manhattan
regard as ill-begotten
our wenches,
since they don’t give French kisses
like those a Frenchman’s missus
provides.
Unlike the taxi horn
George scouted, Frenchmen scorn
as girl guides
without baton
Manhattan.

Inspired by a TV performance of “American in Paris” by George Gershwin, performed by the NY Philharmonic conducted by Alan Gilbert in a New Year’s eve concert that included five Cole Porter songs sung by Thomas Hampson, including “Why Gay Paree? ” a favorite of Hampson, who was interviewed by Alec Baldwin before the performance.

Dreams of Vienna

Solstice elves quiet as a fox
Light and snow on the morning pines
Vivaldi writes for the seasons
Symphony of grace and beauty
I wish I were in Vienna
Covered in the jeweled myths
Calling Bach, Mozart, Beethoven
Evening gowns swirl to a waltz
Fall leaves dance like elegant notes
Carriages with ladies dressed like flowers

Poise, science, enlightenment
Music reflecting faith and hope
Male and female in Greek ideals
The reformation sighing freedom
Renascence spurring the arts
Classic forms touching the world
Concert Halls like portals of angels
Vivacious architecture for the ages
A string section like a bolt of heaven

Mother (My Point of View)

Sewing machine:
Jean patches,
Superman capes,
Dress hems 10pm,
Night before the concert.

Kitchen sink:
Baking-powder biscuits,
Crock pot beef stew,
Chicken with carrots and potatoes.
Not college food.

Minivan:
Shuttle the boys from school,
Aftercare, soccer, track,
Basketball, haircut, orthodontist's.
Buy printer ink, daddy bread,
Poster board for Elias's project due Tuesday.

College mail box:

Peculiar is my..

Peculiar is my mind
As of a opinion here..

Those squirrels percuss
When in solo each
My heart stretches its ears..
Cannot profess notating
Nor can syllable the screeches
Those captivating tones
Enchanting in variable meters
Sounding in chiseling stony tone..
When I opine of it so..
'Peculiar is my mind'
As of a opinion here

I like their rhythmicity..
Their tala patterns
Permutated to different sets
Screechings one, two, three
Combined with five, seven, nine

An Arrogate Fool

I can’t play an instrument,
Yet, I can bang a warning on a drum!
I can’t sing a pleasant tune,
Yet, I have harmony in poetic form.
I will keep banging a warning, till you hear my song!
Having little money, but rich with friends hearing my cry!
A concert of drums for those in the know and not afraid to die,
Eerie sounds of night drums, at many tribes chants.
A Calvary charge rings out at an arrogant general’s behest.
The arrogant general heeded not the warning,
Of many tribes assembling drum fests.
The general and his men died in a circle,
With many arrows in their chest,
The arrogant general died disgraced,
Left to bleed out,
As his scalp was cut from his head…
